People I need some help here please....

A Packard Bell lappy has a fresh install of XP..LAN works lovely..but the Wireless network is a no-no!

All the Wireless drivers are all in place and Wireless is enabled...but when a network scan is made no devices can be found...lot even secure Ones.

Is it not as easy as I presume, or are there some configurations I need to do.....a BIOS setting mabey?

Sorry this is vague but the Lappy isn't here....i'm just hoping i'm missing something really simple.
