Hi All

Been mooching about the emu scene for quite a few years and have lurked here for far too long. hello!

Recently I bought a vivid connect4, I know it's not everyone's favourite machine but it was such a good price I couldn't pass it up.

I've read a few posts (I did search) on barcrest machines and buzzing from the speaker, and yeah, this one does it too. The PSU is silent till the bulbs kick in, but there's also a chirruping (like arcing but not) from the PSU when in operation. As they're a little long in the tooth I thought I'd try a replacement to see if I could quieten it a little. However there appear to be a few different pinouts? Mine has the old soldered pins on the circuit board, but some of them on ebay (namely cheaper) have what appears to be a different connector like this:

BARCREST MPU5 POWER SUPPLY, FRUIT MACHINE SPARES on eBay (end time 26-Nov-09 16:10:36 GMT)

but mine is like this:

Fruit Machine Parts - Barcrest MPU5 PSU Assy on eBay (end time 03-Dec-09 12:15:24 GMT)

I guess mine is older.

I know it's normal to have a level of buzz from a machine, especially if the lights cause it to increase, however I wouldn't mind a spare PSU anyway. They don't last forever and I'm sure the capacitors are getting long in the tooth.

I used to own a smash & grab, mk1 lite-a-nudge and an each way shuffle many moons ago. Miss those machines, these new ones seem to be so generic. But that's a conversation for another time :)

I think £40 is a bit steep for a PSU used, and the cheaper one won't fit I guess? unless there is an adaptor for the pinouts?

Nice forum, and thanks for reading

John

Normal for a Barcrest machine to make buzzy noises.

As stated above the mpu5 psu has never changed so theres only one option to buy.

Buzzing comes standard so i would say dont waste your cash IMO.

Having said that £25 is a good price.
