Hi guys....

First, thanks for reading this. I am in a position to buy a fruit machine for someone as it would be an excellent Birthday gift but I need some advice. I've been and looked and had a play with it and it seems to work ok (i.e all the lights work, the reels move and the gameplay seems fine) but it's the money side that seems to not be right. I understand that by law, the payout tubes or something have to be de-activated but I thought the machine could still be played. I put some money in the slot and it racks up credits, plays them but the money doesn't come out if you get a win. Fair enough - if the payout is de-activated then that explains it but how the hell do you get your money out?

I tried the - put it into test mode and do a coin dump but that does nothing. The money is in the tubes coz I can see it! Didn't wanna break them though as it's not mine yet. It's a "Fairground" machine and it's in pretty good nick and the guy doesn't know anything about it so he'll take peanuts for it but it really is no good to me if I can't get it to go.

If anyone has any good ideas or contacts where I could get it serviced It'd be really helpful. I think it's by Bell-fruit but I'm not sure. I didn't study it that closely!

Thanks and best regards,

Riccochet.

IMHO Fairground is a JPM System 5 which many people would like to see emulated soon :)

Its hard to define the law here - basically a machine supplier needs a license to sell machines, and they have to be for non profit use only if sold to the public.

It should NOT take money, and then not pay it out. Maybe some issue with the tubes is there, and they are covering up with the 'disabling coin mech' smokescreen? No offense, but it is a CLASSIC machine, it isn't as though it'll be sited in a kebab shop!

The alternative method I've seen is Washer Hoppers / Mechs instead of normal coins - seems rather pointless but is basically a free play machine which uses 'monopoly money'

How is it I can buy a site ready Spiker the Biker from a GENUINE supplier, new bulbs and reels, and delivered, and not even have to sign a disclaimer? Came set on the £25 JP with original decals as well!

Not sure what to recommend, sounds like it may be stuck in a test mode, maybe the door switch/es has/have gone, keeping it stuck in a test mode, whereby it accpets credit from coins but won't pay them out. Maybe the collect button is knackered....or maybe they want to rip you off. Bear in mind that these have been on eBay recently, and don't fetch THAT much money - if they are asking over £100 - walk away.

The old machines may be good to play, but they are harder to get spares from than say MPU5 Barcrests 1997+

the machine could be one of the following things find out if the machine reboots when all doors r locked this will let u know if the switches work or not ,try seeing if the wires r on the contacts i.e the tracs pcb or on the tubes also check the 50v ac fuse on the power supply hope this will help along side other members infomation

On a less technical note, does the machine make the "dug dug dug" of actually paying out? If it does, then the tubes are fooked!

I'm not that knowledgeable but I used to have a road hog that had tube probs.

I apologise for my awful username and previous posts from 13 years ago. I was a misguided chav.

the 50v payout fuse may have been removed to prevent payout, so check this first, or the "common" or "ground" wire may be dissconnected or cut to the payout coils. check the back of the payout coils to c if they have been disconnected or look on the mpu for the payout connector plug and make sure all wires are intact and check for bent pins. also check the door switches. if it is not any of these u may have a faulty mpu (knackerd triac maybe)
hope this helps

Perhaps the tubes have been disconnected from the board, whatever it is, it shouldn't be a major thing to fix and Fairground is a class machine. Once you get the machine, post a detailed description of the problem and someone will be able to help you out

I'm am engineer for leisurelink, either the door switches are not connected properly or faulty (check this by keeping the bottom door closed then pressing the back door switch and seeing if the machine resets) if it doesn't then the door switch(s) are faulty. If the machine makes a noise like its paying out then the tubes/hopper could be blocked(if the fuse were removed then it would probably alarm)Try pressing the start button without putting any coins in, if it plays or puts credits on then you have a problem with your door switches. It could also be that you have a problem with your coin mech (acceptor) in that it will accept the coins and not give credit whilst in test (unlikely, but i have known it to happen)
If you get any further problems not covered by the posts here then give me a buzz at michaeljstory@hotmail.com :tropical: :tommycoo: :target-h: (these smiley's are kewl)
