Thought I get your views, I remember when fruit machines were fruit machines, 10p a go & £4 jackpot, it was an abosulete disaster when the jackpot of the machines went up my a measly 80p and the price of play doubled, from that day on, playing with £20 and having an unlucky streak would take minutes to lose rather than hours.

What do you think?

The advent of £4.80JP for a 20p stake brought some delightful machines to play. Jackpots were easier and more frequent and I'd go as far as saying, those machines were the best ever at giving the player better chances of winning from skillful playing. £6 Jackpots were not so bad either with still good gameplay. As the jackpot rose and the stake went up, jackpots became less frequent. Look at the old £4.80 projects machines? You could nudge in 2 JP symbols and had a pretty good chance of rolling in the JP from the next spin. JP symbols or the bonus box symbols, the same chances seemed to be had in holding after a nudge.

Modern AWP's seem to only give similar odds on wins of £1.60 or less. How many times do you see a modern JPM or Barcrest spin in the JP after holding from the nudges before? I don't think I can ever recall seeing such a thing. Not only has the jackpot increased, not only has the stake increased, but all gameplay is out of the window now.

I like the club machines 25p/£250jp, I would much rather put money in one of those. Putting money in a pub machine with 30p a play seems to be a bad idea compared to it bigger brother. But you do get more jp's on a pub machine, but it can take your money faster than a club one when its on a bad run.

i did prefer when it was only 20p per play in pub machines, 30p per play breaks my heart, i wonder what the price per play will be in 5 years time?? :roll:

I enjoy playing most £5 / 10p and £6 / 20p machines, being 18 haven't had much experience of older machines but from the EMU most of the old Action Bank MPU4 type machines [£4.80 e.t.c] seem to play well.

Don't like the £25 JP, never have and never will. The closer the pubs get to a serious prize the more people will lose looking for that elusive jackpot, and trust me - gambling - even on pub machines - can ruin lives. I would limit pubs to £5 JP - as shouldn't that be what it's about? Passing the time while you drink, and maybe winning a couple of pints while at it - £25 is far too serious - add to that the suck modes over streakpots and it is quite feasible to put £50 in and get f**k all out.

i dint mind the 30p play but i do find you get a few more wins than on the 20p ones.but then you dont care how much it is because you will still like to play it.

With a £25 JP it increases the chance of losing by too much, you get £12 or so out fo say...£5 and on an old £4 or £6 that would be a small triumph, a couple of pints paid for and a bit of fun along the way. The old song "Double your money and make yourself rich..."

but with a £25 JP people are too tempted to carry on, £12 pfeh thats only half the jackpot, it'll pay out more soon...a couple of minutes later and your £12 is gone as is more of your dosh and you've barely got on the board since.

Even if you have you've probably gone higher than a 3 and rolled in 2.

They're designed to take your money, and hats of to the designers - they do a damned good job.

Still think machines were at their best when they were on £6 or £8 jackpots. Even on £10 jackpots they still ran quite often and played a whole lot fairer. As soon as they started to go up to £15 and then £25 they just bacame bollocks. A few years ago a 2 or an 11 was a good number to gamble on, nowadays they are certain death on most machines.

by far for me the best price of play/jackpots for me is jackpots being no more than £4.80 excellent fun. even the 2p £1.50 jackpots were good for me banging them rat races /ace chases and many more upto that jp who i had soar fingers.

The thing with pub machines, is when they were introduced, they were something to occupy the punters attention. An alternative to darts or dominoes. Something to play on whilst waiting for the lads or the girlfriend to turn up. Most social clubs still encourage a similar approach. Moneys raised usually being used for the benefits of the clubs members.

Nowadays, pub machines are now a piece of equipment to increase revenue. It's sole purpose is to raise a bit of cash for the brewery and/or landlord. Not a nice jesture of providing us with something to pass a bit of time and have a little fun whilst socialising as it used to be.

Yup, agreed. Which is one reason I stopped playing em. Betcha we have £50 JP in pubs before 2005

Perhaps Fairplay should stop pissing people off and sort out what might make machines better - higher minimum percentage - say, about 82% min?

have to agree that the good old days of the £4.80 JP/20p play was the best era. how many times nowadays do you get the delight of a "777 Heaven" on a run?

i dont think the fruits perform a function in providing entertainment anymore - its merely a way of printing money for the arcades/clubs etc.

why else are there cashpoint machines in arcades now?
