Noticed on a walk through town today, that 2 of the take-aways which still had 2 x AWPs in (one had Hot Rocks / Rumble in the Jungle, the other had Horn of Plenty / Infinity) have had them replaced over the weekend with £40 SWP machines. Didn't pop in, but both were old looking wooden cabinet things, I think one was called Skill Bars.

Just wondering, does that mean the deadline for removing AWPs from these establishments is just around the corner? Most of the other fast food places went to SWP a while back, and these are two of the busiest so I assume they've held out as long as possible.

I can see the industry ending up having to remove the £40 SWP machines... I mean lets be honest, £5 / 10p / 70% isn't a great thing for kids to play, but 50p/£1 play £40 and the attraction of skill (which we all know is crap, given they are still based on compensators and are allowed a 30% payout target) is surely worse?!

Cheers Baz!

Still got a couple of AWPs sited in take-aways - one I used to like playing in has a Gridrunner (proper cabinet, not the Global rebuild), an Addams Family and a Big Brother. Used to do OK on them while waiting for a kebab or pizza :D

All the others though have gone for SWPs. The two new SWPs are 'Skill 21', which looks like you have to skill-stop 5 'hands' with 7 segment displays on '21' for £40 (a total of 105), down to £1 for 101.

Was almost tempted to put 50p in just to see what happened, but am determined not to play anything so didn't bother :)

I did wonder why most of the chip-shops/burger joints/takeaways were getting swp's !

Saying that.A couple of the kebab shops STILL have £25'ers.One even swapped a Yabba dabba darts for a slightly newer model .One has a Italian job ( was still there last time i looked )

You know the Kebeb shop in question baz, that Kebab pyramid that you used to supply.

Dodgy buggers.

I even emailed someone from the gc about one as i was convinced he wasnt paying the duty on his awp, plus the fact he barred me for winning. But he must be paying the duty as the machine is STILL there.

There is a cafe in town that had 3 fruit machines, yes 3.. (some epoch that i didnt care about, money mad martians and jackpoteers). They got rid of them a few years ago and i went in for the first time in ages and they now have 5 bellfruits. :S

i played them and they were so tight.. either someones been using emptiers on them or they are f***ed.. £5 for a board on some ant and dec themed one then it kills me on the first spin.

Single site premises (e.g. chip shops, taxi offices) may continue to site machines as long as their Local Authority permit is in force. These permits were last issued in August 2006 and should have a duration of 3 years maximum. DCMS intends that all single site machine permits will cease to be in force after 31st July 2009.
