ok guys , hope somone can help me , as some of you may (or not) know i am secretary of a ex-service men's club and we have a £250 jp machine that we rent but we have been looking into getting i.e owning a £25-£35 jp machine as you can get one for about £100 on ebay etc as most pubs are now going for £70 jp machines . anyway my point is that as we have a licence for the £250 jp machine does it cover us for the £25-£35 jp machine as well , as if i remeber i thought our licence covered us up to £500 . so in theory we could have 2x £250jp or others up to the amount covered . can someone confirm this or do you need a seperate licence for both ?

If I remember rightly from my days as a working mens club secretary (many moons ago!!) it's got more to do with the stake, rather than the prize. We had two 5p/£75 club machines at our club, but it now has 1 club machine and 1 10p/£5 machine.
Also, I believe it states on the license how many machines that license covers, so you will have to get back in touch with the council(?) or whoever issues the license - I told you it was a long time ago, lol.

I think you should look at your own license and see what it states.

The license acts "per machine". So whilst you have a license up to £500, 2 * £250 JP machin es would need to be licensed seperately. Also club machines come under a different section to £35JP AWP's so would again need to be licensed seperately.10p / £5 is license free but requires a permit, which given its a service mens club I would assume you already have.

That said I am not an expert so would contact someone who is for the latest info, as it changes periodically.

a few points you have raised there.

if your covered for £500, it does not mean you can have 2x£250jp or 20x£25jp. check the stipulations of the license, its typically 2 machines.

your premesis is licences to have (upto) category b4/a, which means you cannot have a category b3. you can have anything lower which includes cat d (small stakes/prizes) and cat c (upto £1/£70jp).

I would find myself (if i was on the committee) asking as to why on earth you would want a cat c £25 in the club. you still have to by law pay AMLD on that machine (some 70-80quid per month) for each cat c you have. also, given the fact it can go wrong, i would seriously consider renting a £70 jackpot to go along side the existing b4 machine. the difference in take will be collosal.

i have a question for you - is it not the case that all revenue from machine must by cycled back into the club? (as to keep beer price down etc.? sure this is what CIU and the legion do?)

Surely you would be better off buying some £250 jackpot machines from ebay rather than £25/35 machines. I doubt most of the regulars in these clubs would put any where near as much into a £25/35 machine as a £250 machine.

The £250 machines on ebay sell for £100-200, so they aren't dearer either.

I'd just get a Club DOND (£250jp) cause that should get peoples attention. plus you can pick one up for between £200-300, so its not too bad really.
At the moment in the club i go to they have Club Cluedo (5p £100jp 72%) and Club Booze Cruse (5p £100jp ?%) both 2007 models and this other machine were theres various tickets at different prices and you select one and peel back the pannels on the card to try and get three of a kind of something theres five pannels on each card. And another funny thing is our club has there licenses pinned up next to the machines.

so hang on what your saying is that as we are covered up to cat b4/a i.e 500jp we can have 2x 250jp maches or 1x250jp and our own £70 jp machine and be covered on the same licence but if we get a 25-35 jp awp then we have to pay more . oh and reson why we thought of a 25jp was when the jp goes on the 250 people are less likely to play it and if they play the 25 -35 all the money is ours as we would own it but with the 250 we rent it so all the money goes on rental and licence (about £3000). so if we could have 2 machines 1 rented and 1 owned the owned one would go some way to paying for the rented one .

i`ll try to look at if from your perspective and suggest to you the following -

Rental sucks, so i suggest you purchase your own. Whilst you may save £100 per month on the difference in duty on a cat b4 to a cat c, the money cycled through will be far far different. Buy yourself a club machine like the DOND said earlier, good money maker and frequently gives out small wins to keep the punter happy.

my supplier at AMD says DOND is 545+vat and DOND can beat the banker is 895+vat.

Booze cruise is hideous at most stakes but at 5p/£100 I think i'd rather gouge out my eyes than play it
