M1Adness Design welcomes on board Designer17a who has produced this excellent 1024 resolution classic layout of Monopoly - hopefully this will be the first of many. The machine was originally manufactured by Maygay and this layout is for MFME. We would also like to thank Leeham for his assistance with this project without which you would not be playing this layout today - many thanks Leeham!

This layout is the original Maygay release of Monopoly and is the first time this machine has been seen emulated. Overall it is very similar to Deluxe Monopoly, but lacks some of the additional features. For example, there are no hotels, spinning a double does not award a station and you cannot spin a double to escape from jail either. Sounds on the machine are a mix of samples and synthesised sounds such as synth music for the Jackpot and Choose a Win.

Despite the £8 JP this machine still plays a good game. At the time of release Maygay machines of the era were geared up to large token streaks. Monopoly was always a machine that was very willing to pay large amounts of token wins, and this rom is no exception. Although there is a good streak in the machine as with anything there are downsides. More frequent streaks mean longer barren periods, and although nowhere near as mean as the rebuilt red version the balance of play is not as refined as Deluxe Monopoly. It is common here to invest £10 worth of credits without a win or feature.

Monopoly was one of the first big name licences for Maygay and the transfer to AWP was performed well. It's large imposing glass and bold graphics were an immediate success, and overall the machine was destined to become a classic, particularly as it was the first of its kind to use the very popular licence. Even today the longevity of the Monopoly licence is not in doubt, not only with other Maygay machines but also a JPM and a recent BFM version as well. As with many machine features Maygay was first past the post, and even so long after release this still provides an enjoyable game.

The original version was a £4.80 jackpot machine. Unfortunately these roms are not currently available, so for now at least only an £8 token JP update is available for play. Both layout and roms are available from the Downloads section at http://madness.fruitemu.co.uk

Hopefully from fruit-emu.com soon also - over to you admins!

We hope you enjoy this release!
