Hi Guys,
I have a Dell Vostro 1700 with two hard drives. Its currently running windows vista home premium which I hate. The laptop keeps freezing when I boot it up on battery at the windows load up. It works fine plugged in to the ac adaptor.
I have installed the latest bios and reinstalled vista but it keeps happening. I even tried a new battery.
Could this be down to vista. Is it worth putting xp on or can I put xp on the other hard drive and dual boot?
I have a copy of xp on my main home PC. Can I clone this hard drive or do I need to buy a copy of xp?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

They are 2 x120gb hard drives.
Laptop spec is as follows:
Intel Core Diuo T7250@2.00 Ghz
3070MB RAM
Vista Home Premium
2 x 120gb hrd drive
Nvidia GeForce 8600 Graphics Card
If anyone has any ideas on why it would freeze that would be great.
Many thanks

maybe faulty connection between your battery & system?
if you've got a vista disk id do a complete total & utter reinstall as some of the core files could be damaged
& as for getting xp installed look here
helped me get it all set up & working

Just when you mentioned the 'V' word and talked about your laptop crashing all the time.
I woulda thought that was quite a common occurrence ?

Seriously though..might be worth checking you have SP1 installed and i believe SP2 beta is out atm.
Also try Windows update site if you can stay BSOD free that long as sometimes its just a driver update issue.

I have a Vostro 1700 also, but I made Dell put xp on it, and it froze up after 2-3 weeks of use. I reinstalled xp and it froze up again after another few weeks. it turned out to be a faulty hard drive. The fault showed up in Dells built in diagnostics, and Dell eventually got me a new hard drive. I did get battery faults on boot up (the bleep) but that could of been down to living in Spain at the time, as I have not had them since.
That was about 6 months ago. I have had no trouble since, so if your hard drives are fine and your battery is fine, then get rid of Vista and put on XP.
