Have a small question one of you nice guys might be able to answer

When ever i connect to the internet from anyone of the 2 desktops or lappy in the household it all ways says local area connection speed 100.0mbs so thats 1mb right? to be honest i think that's rubbish sometimes find it hard to play the PS3 online due to connection being poor if someone else is on another computer wile i'm trying play the ps3 i got no chance, I'm with talk talk and have been for over a year i don't pay for broadband its free so i shouldn't really moan but hey lol i phoned them today and guy said he's going try and give it a speed boost and at most ill be able to get 4mb but to expect 3mb.. so i decided to do a speed test before this change happens so wile its still at 1mb and got these results Posted Image

Could someone tell me when it changes to 3mb like guy said is very likely how much will my speed results change? cos by looking at them it says i'm downloading at 1.7mb.

Any help would be great thanks

The local area network (lan) means you're lappys/pc's can comunicate with each other at up to 100mbs thats 100mb per second.

You're internet download speed looks like its about 1.7mb a second (that changes a hell of a lot depending on what server you are downloading from at any given time)

Not a great deal better but better none then less.

During the phone call i explained that main problem was playing the PS3 and he said something along the lines of phone sony getting the best settings of them then phone him back up and he can then tweak it for gaming so gaming would be good but browse and downloading would not be so good, went over my head a bit to be honest.

Any reason why it still says its connected at 1mb tho when surely it should say 2.1 or 2mb now?

That's cleared that up then, so i'm guessing best time to play the ps3 would be when none of the other computers are online? at times the both desktops the lappy and the ps3 could all be online at same time with some downloading some browse and me trying to game lol

Basically hes gonna change your router settings

pre built in 99.9% of modern routers is the ability to designate it for a certain ability

he's gonna make it so its best suited to the ps3s useage/connection etc

it will make your internet a lot slower judging by your speeds =/

also do a retest & connect to a US server, that will be another reason your ps3 will be lagging/Disconnecting a lot il post mine to USA Portland normal & USA Portland while using Xbox 360

ha i see, just noticed something at home that i didn't know before just been looking at brothers laptop and noticed when ever he switches it on it opens Utorrent and starts seeding so everytime he's been on laptop wile i been trying to play that's been open surely that would make it alot slower, just changed its settings so Utorrent won't open on start up now. wish i would have new that before has is lappy is never off.

Cheers for replies guys have good day.

Depend when you upload and download as well..as Virgin Media throttle the fook out thier bandwidth.

Take last night for example..was uploading a torrent and downloading another at the same time..my speed dropped from 1150kbs download and 45kbs upload to 300kbs download and 10kbs upload.

I know they say they are only interested in persuing the top 5% of heavy internet users..but i think the entire Virgin Media customers must make up that 5%.
Mmmmmm...Sandy ive 'ad her ye know. :)

All my online friends use Virgin and they get silly download speeds but all so seem to think during peak times they get reduced, me my self i don't bover with uploading in less some one asks me for a music album i have then ill upload using rapidshare i all so use rapidshare for all my movies and music have a premium account so get better speeds and can download 5 files at once with no waiting not used torrents for along time.

Im with virgin on 20MB they do throttle i have done speedtest.net at times & i am just under 5MB, othertimes when its not peak period (peak 5pm-12 midnight) i get 20MB on speedtest.
But i cant complain its free with my flashed modem.

On the rapidshare point, it downloads too fast & get corrupted to much for my likings, sometimes i have to download most parts again it is annoying.
