Crystal castle was a big favorite for me and I loved the egg one, not sure of the name. There was another in smiths in cleethorpes and I have no idea of the name but I did play it all the time and i was addicted.

Chucky Egg?

I cant believe no one mentioned Hunchback yet! Is it available on mame or as a flash game? I remember Googling it ages ago and not finding anything.

Jet Pac was a class game. Same as Attic Attack. Both by 'Ultimate' on the Speccy. Lemmings convinced me to buy an Amiga and I wasted many months playing The Settlers.

In the arcades, I was pretty good at 'Spy Hunter' and 'Tapper'. Last real arcade game I played was 'Rolling Thunder'. Then my attentions turned to 20p £4.80 jackpot fruities.

I still enjoy laoding up MAME and playing Bombjack, Major Title 2 and Shinobi amongst many others.

I may get one of those X-arcade joysticks soon, just to make the experience more authentic. I find it hard to play some games using a controller or keyboard.

Even better play some 80's music and pump some stale cigarette smoke into the room for that 80's arcade feel.

Can't beat the old days - rows of Xenon cabinets in arcades with Track and Field and Pacland ringing out. 2 x 10p stickers next to the coin entry bezels. Nice springy buttons for Hypersports.

Can't go back...
Watch out! There's a SIG thief about...

A few more I just remembered-
Roadrunner
Star wars(3d line effect)
Empire strikes back
Q-bert
Sidearms

All games were great back then but my absolute fave was Spaceharrier.Used to get quite an audience in the sit down version.Used to have it in Joyland(forum now) Bridlington. Was 30p a play then.
These days video games have gone like fruit machines where the entertainment value has gone out the window.10p could last me an hour on Wonderboy whereas a quid will last you only a few minutes nowadays.

i was absolute crap at these, hardly ever played them in the arcades. of the ones i did play on the odd occasion were,

frogger
Galaxian
moon cresta

i did enjoy spending many hours watching other people play after i had lost all my money in the fruities. the ones that fascinated me most were

missile commander
defender
stargate - this was a follow on from defender and didn't see many of them. had more tricks and bonuses than defender but the basic idea was the same. people in our local kebab shop enjoyed many hours playing it.

i did play a lot of these games on the BBC Micro but i got the impression that they were made to be a lot easier than the real arcade machines but some of the games were just rubbish or badly programmed and the sounds were crap compared with the arcade games and other computers around at the same time.

I still play Final Fight at least once a month, lots of Streetfighter 2 as well.
Smash TV is one of my all time faves, its a shame you never find a good arcade any more.

Yes indeed, two I had forgot about. Could never finish traverse Usa off 10p always had one or two continues. As for Circus Charlie I think it was fixed at times. Looked like you had jumped through a hoop of fire only to be fried lol.
Another classic I used to enjoy was Burnin Rubber.
Always wondered why people got mega high scores on this. I always thought you had to smash the cars out of the way but you scored heavily by clearing a round with no crashes. :-P

Traverse USA Videogame by Irem (1983) - The International Arcade Museum and the KLOV

Traverse USA - Spyhunter used to remind me of this - strange little game that seemed to be as much luck as judgement if I remember right.

Used to love Circus Charlie
Circus Charlie Videogame by Konami (1984) - The International Arcade Museum and the KLOV

They had it at the youth club I used to go to as a kid on 10p play and I never used to get very far on it as I wasn't as good as the other kids at it as I was more in to table tennis at the time -but a class game nonetheless.

I loved the games Tornado Low Level, shooting games - Operation Wolf and Operation Thunderbolt too..

But all time classics were Saboteur - used to complete it everygo and Green Beret as well as Comando :-)

Mine was that game called Carnival, you know you had to shoot items and the flags, ducks used to fly down and eat your bullets, when you completed the round you had to shoot a bear fo rbonus points.

There was also an american Football one I liked but was rubbish at it.

Also i used to like Track and field.

Sure you ain't me silk????

Thats me to a tee....thank god for MAME :)

i never bothered with Arcade machines as there was always fruitys or Pinball tables to tempt me...and then i discovered Home computers....The ZX80
Cyberpunk:- alienated loner who lives on the edge of society in generally dystopic future where daily life is impacted by rapid technological change, an ubiquitous datasphere of computerized information, and invasive modification of the human body.....Hmmmmm
