thanks for the help, i have now removed the battery it was damaged as you have stated , i have also put the board back in the machine and the machine works as before. i have attached some photos . where can i purchase the battery from? cheers mike

No worries.
Looks like you caught it just in time, much more damage like that and they start to go senile and need a new board.
Seen quite a few like that recently.:(

That type of battery can be found on Ebay. Other outlets are available!

Make sure the pads on the board are really clean - isopropyl alcohol is good.
If you have a fibreglass pencil you can clean the pads back to bright copper before soldering.
Use decent flux cored solder.

not really well up on soldering things this small; no problems unsoldering the batterry out ; dont understand the phrase pads all i did was solder between the battery and the board (burnt the board a bit as the solder wouldnt run ) think now the jobs a bit to delicate for me any advice?

That should only be necessary if the battery had leaked and damaged the board.
It is common for this to happen though!

Edit: just re read the other post!
Cleanliness is essential or the solder may not flow properly...
If you have badly burnt the board then a replacement may be necessary. :(

hi had another go at soldering with limited success allthough machine worked correctly for a short period ie no alarm and did remember last win in the memory. The following day back to normal unfortunately. I have removed battery from the board again the battery got 3/4 volts so it ok , the problem is i cannot solder accurately enough or well enough to make a good contact so i am no worse of than i was before machine all still works ;learnt a little about fruit machines. probably buy a new board on ebay (fingers crossed) a big thankyou to all that have replied to my questions cheers mike

Good thing the machine is still working anyway!

Soldering is not the easiest thing to do, and it helps if you have certain kit like a fibreglass pencil as these are really good for cleaning the metal tracks and pads back to bright copper.
I remember some of my early soldering attempts with horror! :bigeyes06:
