You see some random people defrauding a machine in a pub via the notechanger. What action would you take (if any)?

I'd not bother doing anything, not unless it was mine or a friends machine.
Actually I'd just tip off the owner about the problem and not point out the people involved, unless I did'nt like the owner, then I'd get onto the free money myself.lol

Id chuckle to myself and watch from a distance :o)

Was it a cashino or something ?

Ive seen this done before with the note changer on those.

They just put a refill key in to see how much was in the machine. Wacked on about that many credits and then played for a while and ejected.

Now thats free money for ya lol. Bit naughty if you ask me though.

Take some video footage using your mobile and report them to the correct authorities.

There is NO difference between ripping off a fruit machine, and nicking money out of a till, and as such, there should be no reason not to formally complain.

Of course the alternative is to get their heads kicked in.

Yes, I was torn between alerting a member of staff and turning a blind eye. The trouble is, most staff members are clueless when it comes to machines and are more likely to bar someone for using a mobile phone within a ten metre radius of a machine than for using a device to fraudulently obtain credits.
There is also, as Pgamblin says, a chance of retribution if it's a local haunt (which it was) and you stick your nose in too much. There's obviously plenty of pennies in this fraud game, more so than blapping in bloops on a blippetty blapper in your local Bloopleys. So there is a vested interest in protecting the illegal income. Who do you trust? Is the barman in on it as well? How do you know?
In the end I anonymously reported the incident on the machineguard website giving date/time/descriptions etc
It's a certain type of note acceptor that's getting done and all you 'players' will probably have heard the rumours. I was just shocked to see it with my own eyes. As for how it was done, well I caught a quick glimpse of the device and to be honest I'm none the wiser. I've done a posting in a VIP section of a fruit machine players forum, but don't get excited. What I saw I couldn't and wouldn't replicate. To me it looked like a sophisticated form of strimming.
The machine Gary was one that is being talked about a lot on other forums as having an emptier. The game has been around for a while and I doubt there is an emptier. This is a fairly recent clone and I think this little fraud is possibly the reason they may be appearing 'emptier'' than normal. It's not a software manipulation. Also if you do get caught at this kind of game, I believe the penalties are stern.

I can see exactly what's gonna happen here. Some arcades/pubs etc will panic and disconnect all the note changers just in case. Your right about some staff being a bit clueless about stuff like that but not all of them are. Quite a few now are clued up and keep their eye on people. Except when they stop for a gossip or a fag. Obviously in that arcade the CCTV doesn't happen to be pointing in that direction. Handy. Must be pro's. Can't see it being a scummy chav/chavette. Unless they've managed to grow brains over night!

Blimey. Wonder if that's was a day's worth for them. Makes you wonder how much they made. Even if they are prosecuted, their profits won't be covered under POCA i don't think. So it'll be there for them when they get out, if they go down. Obviously minus that 5k. Suprised there are still some arcades with 'blind spots' on the CCTV. Think they do rely on the staff too much in some places. But sounds like it did the job in this case. But it's how long they were getting away with it before they got caught. Maybe they'd done loads down here then went over the border to try their luck. But it ran out.

Extra pair of eyes? 4 eyes? lol if it's not one thing it's another. But sounds like they've nipped this one in the bud a bit sharpish. As long as there's fiddlers out there, honest players half the time, don't have a cat in hells chance. Sad but true. At the time one trick is being discovered, another 2 dozen are probably being done nationwide on a daily basis.

I can well imagine. Some people don't realise it's not just fruit machines that can be fiddled. But if people think there's money to be made, they'll always be finding new ones. Certain ones must be leaked from the inside though. No doubt about it. No way of proving it though and that's the problem. Amazing some of the things people get away with though. I guess no matter how advanced machine tech gets, they'll always be potential flaws in it, and people more than willing to try and find them.
