The Around-The-World machine I have appears you were all right on the battery senario.

I plugged it in and I had all 4 of the red led's light on the board, so to me it suggested the PSU was kinda OK. I removed the cover to the S5 board and I saw the state the Battery had caused to the circuit.

Also there was some bad scorching off of some of the resistors in One area.

----------------

Given the above info and the severe damage to the circuit could this alone stop a machine booting (silly question but I want to be sure)? Also is it impossible to find a replacement board?

Appart from the above the wiring etc appears in tip-top condition.

----------------

Thanks very much guy's for all your help.

Ohh nasty, if you cant get another board then its multimeter time to see what traces are broken.

Hopefully if you can remove the battery and clean the PCB youll be able to see what damage is done.

with the battery like that ady i would say it might be alot easier just to change the board as from the pics i have seen the battery has caused severe damage to the tracks. u should be able to get a replacment board from jnc in bristol.

when batteries leak they can cause machines to do wierd n wonderful things and even stop the machine from booting up due to track breaks

Thanks very very much guy's for the info I really appriciate it.

I'll google jnc and give them a call lincs.

I really love this machine and would like to get it working again.

On the emu front now.......I have spoken with a classic/DX'er who's taking it on, so i'll have the best of both worlds once it all falls into place.

Remove the battery and clean up the traces with a little vinegar. See how bad they really are. It look slike a nicely confined area of damage. My M1A boards look a lot (like loads) worse than that. I used an old toothbrush dipped in vinegar to clean up with. Worked a treat. The battery leak doesn't look like its damaged a lot. Definately worth trying to repair it or give it to someone such as Magik or Sys80. Won't be long before boards like that are a rare occurance.

That said, JNC might do a part exchange.

Lincs I spoke to Marion.....those people are really helpful and real friendly.

Basically they have One (untested due to nowt to test it on) for a mere £20!!!!

One problem though..it is a Sys5 JPM Crystal board (that I need), but it has a sticker on it "modified for Yamaha sound"...

Excust me being nieve but would these new Pics answer whether mine is?

Also I hope the newer Pic really shows up the damage to the tracks :(

very nasty corrosion there ady, looking at the pics however i don't see any difference because from what i remember crystal use the same standard jpm boards on there machines anyway, but bare in mind i have never replaced a jpm board with a different sound chip so i cannot really say. baz or impact might be able to update u on that score m8.

oh my prares have been answered, 6 times in 3 years I have posted requests for this machine to be looked at, and not a single reply, then on comes Ady with the machine in his posession. Just remind me this is the clubber with the 4 planes etc...

I want to have a go at DX ing this as my first project. I have swotted up with Ross wicked tutorial and ready to have a pop. Are you willing to do me some scans ady, or were you planning on doing this yourself.

Sorry g 'tis taken mate.....be assured its by a creator who will do credit, given I do the images ok!.

As you can see it won't be a scan as I intend working on the machine and getting it up 'n running at home, so it'll only be Pic's........then i'll do my best on those as I said earlier...

And 4 planes?.................you greedy bugger............get 3 and do it the hard way lol....;)....yeah it has 4 bud.

I'm just chuffed it was up and running, I have to admit I did read your past post's before creating this thread....

What are you planning on doing with the old board then Ady? Seriously it doesn't look that bad. Ok the corrosion istelf is seere but thesmall area it has affected stands in favour of it being repairable. The problem I have had with my M1A boards is that the leak has spread all over about 1/6 to 1/4 of the boards. It makes finding the dodgy components very diffiult as you cannot trust that any of the leaked on components are doing their job. In this case it seems like simple track repairs over a small area. If its not already spoken for and you dont want to keep it then I would like to purchase it off you to try and repair. I will pm you in due course.

This is the score Guitar.....

Buying that board from JNC, my Bro who repairs Flight Sim's (the real thing) said drop it over tomorrow and he'll look at the damage......tbh known him 42 years and didn't give him a thought! DOH!

So, all I want is to grab some good images for an Emu and fingers crossed One of the 2 boards will be repaired and thats the answer.

Once this is up 'n' running you are welcome to the left overs mate at postage as I had a bargain in the first place...

Pic for gspot ;)
