If Norton detects the virus it should be able to remove it if you do a full system scan in safe mode.

I use Norton Goback which is an awesome piece of kit if you suddenly get a virus.

If you havent tried the above do that first.

Also turn off system restore before you boot into safe mode.

Tara,

Take no chances if you do not know what you are doing. Take it to a professional computer shop and let them remove it for you for a small charge, as it is probably likely you may have more than 1 virus that was undetectable by you antivirus software (assuming this as it did not detect the Trojan Horse).

Your AV a 'proper' version...........

A hacked version is obviously insecure.

Try Trend Micro

Trend Micro HouseCall - Free Online Virus and Spyware Scan

Run a full scan, and as Vamp said get rid of that restore...any virus etc's backed up!

what a lovely plethora of ideas, so far we have use norton, turn off system restore, take it to a pro and then use trend micro on it :D

Dont you just love it when heads come together for as solution :)

ok my advice is a little different again so i'll put it to you if you wish to choose what to do.

My advice is go to Computer Forum Computer Forum and post a thread in the computer security section. Theres a member there that generally keeps up to date on things and he is pretty much an expert on spyware and such. If anyone can sort it he can.

I could run you through it all here but i would guess that you will get a multitude of conflicting ideas and not really get to a solution. This lad over at computerforum will ensure you are clean :)

(bear in mind he does live in AUS so might take a little while for him to respond)

Trend needs to install some (SAFE) software..........it will remain idle but it gets going.

All in all it'll take a good 2 hours to complete.

System restore....start>progs>access>sys tools>restore

The main thing is stick it in safe mode..

Delete all your temp files.
Delete all cached internet pages (use disk cleanup for these two tasks if you don't know how to do it manually).
Turn off Backup.
optional:Remove everything from Startup in your programs
optional:Remove everything from Run in Registry
Run SpybotSD (free)
Run AVG anti Spyware (free)
if you are still having a problem then you need to re-install your machine.

Programmes I use and run weekly. Keeps my PC, as crap as it is, totally clean and never had a problem despite dodgy surfing.

AVG Anti-Virus v 7.5
Spybot
C Cleaner
Easy Cleaner
Trend Micro House Cleaner (If AVG doesn't pick it up).

Sorted ;)

Agree with ye on this one Ady..downloaded an anti-virus prog that told me to disable any current ant-virus software i already had..as this one was gonna overwrite it.

That should have raised my suspicions (spelling ?) but i went ahead anyway and installed it..totally fooked ma pc up big time and had to end up formatting.

So from now on ill be sticking with what ive got..90% of torrents will be "safe" to use..but that other 10%..well..you know :(
Mmmmmm...Sandy ive 'ad her ye know. :)

Jimmy, it's a forum mate, where people have different ideas, solutions. You are free to choose the ones you want to use.

The ones you don't want to use...then don't use 'em. :)
