What I'm saying is the MAME team has said Wizard can only release a new version of MFME if he releases the source.

..and rightly so as that is the terms of their license. It is THAT simple.

Wizard won't do this so we (the FME scene) don't get a new version of MFME. I hasn't got anything to do with our history. All I'm saying is te MAME team could allow Wizard to release MFME closed source if he gets permission from the people who wrote the origanal code (I beleive its the cores which Wizard used).

Why in the name of little apples should Wizard get special treatment? Why should he be treated differently from EVERY other coder who has used MAME code? Bottom line is he should not and he should play by the rules. The fact is HE (and he alone) chooses NOT to play by the rules so it is Wizard and him alone who everyone should be asking why. He has f***ed FME no one else. No one is forcing him to keep MFME on his HDD. He has spoilt the hobby of 1000s of innocent members because he can't get his own way. It is that simple, no arguments.

While pople in the MAME scene should know who these people are, Wizard is unlikley too so a litte bit of comprimise from both parties would be beneficial. I didn't know it was sold origanally, but this has no bearing on future releases as long as they are free.

Again why should he get special treatment, for God's sake he even tried and succeeded to SELL the code he stole. He was offered an olive branch the other day by Haze and I guess (I know) Haze bent as much as the license would allow but all 'we' got was the big NO from Wizard, so who is to blame, who is being childish, who is spoiling 1000s of people hobbies just because he can't have it all his own way? Selfish does not even come close it it.

and maybe I'm being abit unfair to the MAME people but this is my opinion and we are on a discussion forums and I'm not going to water down my opinions. It is what it is.

Maybe? Total understatement. Just remember and this goes to a fair few other posters on this forums, WITHOUT MAME THERE WOULD BE NO MFME. Please stop and understand this before you go just wanting a new MFME at no matter what selfish costs.


I think as far as common sense is concerned it would be nice for a mod to make it perfectly clear to people here the situation regarding MFME/MAME because really it is 'disturbing' reading all the uneducated posts here on this subject and really shows the posters up for what they are - selfish.

It was rightly aimed at the people here who think it is okay to f*** off MAME but not okay to f*** off MFME. It was aimed at the people here who are so 'blinded' that they do understand without MAME there would be no MFME (I mean ffs there was a thread here the other day asking if MAME runs on a PC for Gawd's sake,) it's aimed at the people who are so selfish they do not give a f*** about emulation as long as they get a new MFME at no matter what cost.

If this guy has taken the time to collect and compile all the "FREE" games onto discs, and is selling them, for what must be a small return for all the effort, then good luck to him.

No no no no no. For starters I bet he has used my dat or one of my discs originally so all the sorting is done, then he has claimed he has sold 1000s. These are going at £2.50 a pop. I would guess since I have done many 100s of these DVD sets for FREE or more often at a loss to me for members that he is making over £1 a set. You do the maths?

He is scum plain and simple.

And so what if Wizard does release an update without the open source code --- What are Mame going to do, sue a person they have no idea who it is or where they live ??

Usually it would be someone who thinks that clicking a mouse and downloading ROMs from a BBS in the time it takes to make a cup of tea has the same value as a person writing (mostly all of) an emulator over many months or years, (mostly) for free, in their spare time, in order to play (most of) those ROMs.

However doing something for this scene that takes the amount of time to make a cup of tea is still a million times more that what you have done. Also if you had read my post you would have seen I said that at this moment I have released (as well as everyone else) the exact same number of copies of Amber as Guitar...

Not been around FME land (much) for 18 month or so (not dead but had some major life changing situations and medical procedures to deal with) and it seems some people still.... 

 

a) Cannot accept the truth.

 

b) Love dragging stuff up (even though they more often than not were against dragging stuff up.)

 

DadsFME did not kill FME, The EPEE saga and subsequent handing over of FF to Rouge had a good say in killing FF (IMHO) but really Wizard 'killed' FME  by not releasing his stuff/Hissy fitting/Posting carrot dangles (the last killer blow IIRC.)  None of the DadsFME staff alerted MAME of Wizards breaking of their licence and 'borrowing' of their code.  The MAME team themselves had been keeping an eye on it for ages.

 

People should have realised by now in this soap opera of FME that more often than not the truth, although it might not be what you want to hear is often straight forward and more boring than most wish for.

Many thanks fellas.  It's a shame since I left the NE and 'life shit' got in the way I do not have much time (if any) for FME any more but it's always going to be a scene full of fond memories and great friends.

Yes.

I believe it is just common courtesy to ask a layout creator if you can borrow their bits.  This argument is as old as grass and involves the old locked layouts bullshit.  To compare the FME members to Companies regarding copyright is plain stupid.  It actually is a different set of rules for us as regards to them.  (Apart from when Empire were 'in.')  It costs money to copyright something and to think a FME member has gone the extra mile to do that is stupid so saying 'I don't want this I don't want that converting etc' is a) pointless and b) petulant.

 

I'm sure AT would have been all for allowing his stuff to run on Amber when he was in 'that' particular Inner Circle.  It's the same old and to a certain degree DS is correct one man has caused more damage to this scene than the rest put together and in the main it was due to not getting his own way.

 

Oh just for the record no one really contacted the MAME coders regarding MFME, They had been keeping a long eye on the situation when other side projects from a couple of other emulators 'crossed-over.' So blaming an individual from DadsFME is complete inaccurate bullshit.....

 

Anyway back to the original point it's nice to be asked if your bits and pieces can be used but really it should be a given from a creators point of view that once a layout is released it should be considered free game, that is the opinion I have always had, after all every single one of us have broken some copyright law or other during our lifetime in FME land.

The person who alerted MAME devs to MFME was erm a MAME dev.  So in essence no one alerted MAME devs because they had people on both sides of the fence.  MAME basically knew all along, or people connected with them did.  I guess they were just biding their time to call Wizard out on it or when FME became more MAME relevant when Haze decided to fiddle with it.

 

However tbh all of that is a pointless argument because it killed 'nothing' as Wizard had already spat his dummy out numerous times prior to that and was not shown in good light by most members do to his hissy fit 'here is what you could have had' video...

They already knew before that DS.

The full code to MFME was never released IIRC.  That was always my issue with the MAME team pushing the issue.  They totally got the timing wrong.  They rather backed down and settled for something far far short of what they actually were entitled to.  They made their point but cut their nose off to spite their face.

Erm Guitar I posted here (1st time in over two years to a proper thread) because I was told my name got a mention.)  Curiosity allowed me to read the full thread.  Sorry.  I won't be involved in layouts out of respect.  I have a very good reason to hold myself to that.  I have however done lots and lots of other stuff for FME as you well know and it's all old hat anyway.  I just have a new life now, a lot of health issues and general can't be arsedness.  Wizard killed FME once and for all with that video..... not much left from where I'm sitting, although I have not got a clue about Amber or what it can and can't do because I can't be arsed to read up on all the threads etc....... too much effort sorry.  I'm sure it is great though.  Well done!
