Well I've been working on this brilliant little machine from 1998, one of the first ever on the MPU5 tech. This is undone on MPU5, as the ROMs were thought to be non-runners. However HT6 has worked his magic and it now runs without errors.

There are a couple of small issues, but nothing that affects enjoyment.

I'm never sure how interested people are, but I've upped a screeny below to show my progress. Looks flaming ugly, but this is a 98% cracked classic, and will be very nice once everything is made to look neat and in order.

Bit of frustration trying to find the "Nudge Lose" lamp. Trying to get a feature to start with One Nudge only lit, and the "Take Nudge" button active, is tough. In fact it's like trying to get a cheeseburger at a Vegan convention. It just doesn't happen:biglaugh:

Does this machine look or play any differently to the older version? Just wondering. Will give this a whirl when it gets a release!

Funny when I glanced at this sentace for the first time i read it as: trying to get a cheerleader
at a Virgin convention! I had to do a double take lol

Lol! I will use that one in future :) Actually, this is the old version. It's a bit wierd. Barcrest first created Squids In on MPU5, and I don't think they ever released Squids on MPU4. However, BWB came along at some point and did a rebuild, which was on MPU4.

Barcrest kept MPU5 all to themselves for a few years, and poor old BWB were left with the legacy stuff. This explains the strange paradox. They probably got it cheap from Barcrest though.

It plays far better than BWB's rebuild, and has more involved gameplay. They are largely the same though.

That's good to hear. The BWB squids in seems to kill you on the board so frequently it's silly. I love calimari club though which is the club version of squids in.

Just for you Matty, here's the latest screeny. Coming along nicely. I have used Wingdings font for the first time in my life, to make the Squid's "eyes." They are the big red blobs in the centre. I don't think they will still be red when I release the machine though, as it looks like he's been at the wacky baccy.

Missing nudge-lose lamp has also been found

Still got to lay the feature and cash ladder out. Space is tight but I will find a way - expect plenty more changes. Hopefully another couple of days and she'll be ready.

Does anyone want to playtest when ready?

Bit off topic but there was a £15 clone of squids in 'silver screen' in my local chinky until a week ago,

They wanted £40 for it as it's obviously illegal to have in there and they had to get shot of it, popped in last night and they have given it away to someone for nowt.

There goes all my free food I used to get for fixing the thing when it used to go wrong (mainly coin jams)!

I wish dude - I'll be searching the ROMs to see if we have that set. I played it 20p with a single win line and 30p for 3 win lines. That was an awesome version of this machine. We might have the ROMs though - just a question of searching through them.
