I was actually wondering how does a fruity get fully emulated including having the ROMs if I've put that right?

Emulator plus ROM plus layout = playable game

What more do you need?

The history to all this throughout the last two decades is about on here somewhere - you're best using the Search to find it as it is all a long time ago explained... But believe me, I know it is on here somewhere.

It’s hard to explain but... and if I’m wrong members will surely correct it?
First the roms, what makes the fruit machine what it is
Someone owns the machine, say “barmy army “ for instance.
They take said roms from the machine and burn them in a rom burner, which basically copies them onto a computer or spare chips I think.
Then those copied roms are uploaded to a rom site or somewhere in fme land.

That’s the roms sorted , next to turn them into a working game on pc
Some bright spark invents a emulator to play or make the game on, thankfully we have wizard and others who have given us these
Emulators to run them on, without these, no layouts , no fme sites pure and simple!!

Now you need someone to make the layout, luckily there’s a few dozen out n about in fme land that can do the do!!

You load the roms via what’s now called “mfme” by various means and voila you have (hopefully) a load of flashing yellow squares
This is the start of its mfme journey
You then build the layout to what’s commonly called a classic layout
Moving and labelling the little squares adding various symbols to the reels etc, etc
Till eventually you have a completed “classic” layout.

Next the technicoloured Dx
If you have the various resources needed i.e a flyer or photographic images then you can begin your quest

The flyer which has been scanned and uploaded may have directional arrows throughout, these are generally removed via photoshop
If you’ve photos these need to be cleaned to remove flash’s etc via ps
Once you have your fruit machine image you then darken down the image saving a few copies as in off/on
The on image is then re lit via ps , reels blanked out etc ready for its final resting place

Mfme creation

You basically take the on image and add it to the classic layout and re map them yellow squares onto the on image
And follow mfme s steps you’ll then see a running layout looking like the real thing (hopefully)

This was a simple explanation, there’s far more involved than what I’ve written, I hope it’s sort of explained a bit
Regards V666

Thanks Vecs. Are the ROMs stored on some sort of memory card which you could take directly from a machine and plug into a computer?

Some of the modern machines have the S/W on a CF card or in flash memory ( updated by a USB drive ) but all the older ones use EPROM chips that are plugged into sockets on the mainboard. The Eproms are removed from the board then read using a Eprom programmer and transferred to the PC as files.

Warning: This post is mostly my own opinions and may contain irony, if you are obsessed with PAST history you may want to ignore it.

Thanks for the straight answer Wizard. Only reason I asked as I've known the owner of a large seaside amusements for over 30 years and was going to ask him if I could nick his fruity info's and take shit loads of pics. Could that work as I have heard, not only that some cannot be emulated and some you may have to get permission from manufacturers. Is this true?

They don't seem to mind if you don't emulate their new stuff for a few years.

Cheers Richy. It dont surprise me about Wizard as this V19 is the f*****g dogs bollocks!!! Sound on Reno reels is now perfect with higher speed and better graphics, I won't even start about the sound👌🏼Back to the subject, when I'm down there to try and do this(if he gives me the green light) will message you lot back on here, DIF and Dads on the day(although, I'll have to go in after closing especially for the ROMs). I see this as a personal contribution, so fingers crossed!!

The scorp5 £100,s are runnable but wizard left the £100 jp key from v5 upwards as they’re still too new and we don’t want to piss the fruity companies off!!
As for pics Charlie more the merrier as we have classic layouts or roms but no artwork to work with or at least we do but it’s piss poor.
As for obtaining roms you’ll need to follow advice above as in eprom copier etc
Any roms or pics even £100ers will be useful in the future.

They only need to be switched off whilst you take photos aprrox five mins each one and avoid camara flash if possible as a nightmare to remove in Photoshop
