Hi guys as the title suggests do youse think this also ..

It's not often i play the machines these days ..but if im out for a pint and a meal with the missus i'll go..Ill just go stick my change in the puggy..£5 or £6 max..

3 or 4 different pubs ive been in now and the dont have any actual " fruit machines " , just those touch screen jobbies with multi games on them.

I will never play them , i think they are pure shite .. i know you'll always get machines at the seaside arcades etc..but are they a thing of the past in pubs..?

Mmmmmm...Sandy ive 'ad her ye know. :)

Barcrest now known as SG gaming, stopped making reel based machines a year or 2 ago, all the others will follow suit i guess.

even seaside arcades are reducing or not maintaining the traditional fruit machine. From an economic sense at some point it won't be viable to make a single game fruit machine anymore.I would give it 5 years.

Yes mate they are truly a dying breed!

You see even less quiz slots now in the pubs too.

Bring back the pool tables and dart boards :cute:

In a nutshell, Bellfruit have killed the fruit machine off with DOND and clones that nobody other than a player wants to touch. £20 for a board - f that.

as for the likes of say betcom, they just steal the idea and re-badge it.

Barcrest have missed an absolute trick here. their games were genuine originals with a decent game play.

What i would do to play an updated razzle dazzle or lineup in a pub these days. Losing is one thing, but value for money is another.

It used to be called the amusement industry now it's calledcthe gambling industry wonder why it's changed.
There's no amusement in losing £20 straight without even a feature or any entertainment. Back in the token days a few quid got you a board and value for money.
The more I do today, The less I do tomorrow.
Fme is alive and screaming into the 21st century!
Enjoy FME and Happy Gaming!!!!

It's always puzzled me why the likes of Barcrest / SG gaming have not gone down the route of FME and brought out terminals with versions of all their old games on that you can play for money.

much like the ones some folks are building on here

You never know whats around the corner, take this remake of a classic with updated tech like adding credit straight from your bank??!! So hopefully others will follow and remake some early machines.

John Stergies from electrcoin said that after many many years they finally twigged theirs much for playability in £25 25p and therefore went back to their roots.

I would agree.
And remake the good ones from the £4.80-£6 era.

You never know, I never thought I'd see another vinyl record for sale.

Yes they are a dying breed, unless you go to a Weatherspoons in which case, most still have at least 3, unless a small pub.

IMO, instead of killing it off, the DOND feature, prolonged the life of them a bit more. It clearly was a massive hit for Bell Fruit and the TV program was extremely well known and a very popular program. Others such as Barcrest even ended up following the formula, because it was clearly by far the most popular feature on an AWP. I know for myself, back in the day, I would definitely play a machine with the DOND feature, rather than one without.

What's killed it are the jackpots getting far too big to make gameplay a secondary thought and FOBTs, why play for £70/£100 when you can play for £500.

I've never ever got the appeal of lo-tech machines without any sort of feature/top board.

Perhaps, we will see a resurgence like with retro gaming, whereby, a company or two, produce some £4-£10 hi tech jackpot machines with old style gameplay. Anything above £10 and you start to lose gameplay. Yes £15 and £25 can have gameplay compared to a £100 machine, but then you start to lose gameplay types such as chase trail games. But the cost and getting pubs etc interesting probably mean no, unless someone is willing to take a big and possibly expensive risk.

@Wearcity  I think you have nailed it when you say

"Anything over £10 and you start to lose gameplay".

I think that is what is missing from fruit machines now, £70 & £100 machines are so mind numbingly boring there really is no need to play them.  I think we all agree that the best period of fruit machines was when the jackpots were less than £8 or so.  With regards to the title of the thread, yes, I think they are a dying breed because who can afford to pop in £20 to see if a feature board will offer something.

If you do have a couple of quid in change, that does not go far nowadays.

I do miss the good old days when you could be out all day with a score!

If they was to remake old £4.80 jackpot machines they would possibly be £5 cash and as we all know that most of these play shit. They could possibly do remakes on £10 jackpots but greed as taken over so again not enough profit for the arcade owner. I dont really see remakes happening unless there on £100 jackpots. Like the remake of JPM's roller coaster.

Me thinks this is going to be such a let down. The token days of the machine was some of the best days ever, even though we all knew that you dont really win off the tokens as the percentage goes down when using tokens but it was the entertainment, something which will never be relived. :nah:  :(

How true modern machines are sh1t robbing sods with little if any game play but looking on the bright side once machines went over £25 jackpot I stopped playing them if I ever go to my local arcade (very very rare) I head straight for  the £5 red hot roll m/c .I also think after £15 jackpots was when the lost a mlot of game play exceptions as there are a few £25 jackpots that played well

I'd be up for something in the middle, at least for those who wish to gamble a bit more.

Maybe £5 per spin with a £250 jackpot... Still 50x credit but a bit more of a win...
