New set of dats for MFME layouts. roms and snaps.  Many thanks to wecarecity and Stanmarsh for all their 'v5.x' fixed layouts.

 

We now have 1824 games with 4551 layouts and 4050 rom sets.

Just as a side note MFME v5.x has been out 91 days today or as near as damn it to three month.  In that time we have had 532 layouts released for it in one way or another that is an amazing 5.84 layouts per day!!!

Not an easy thing to teach how to use lol.

 

Load the program, add the dat of choice, point the dat to your folder which you want to scan, roms, layouts etc (must be zips)

 

If you wish the program to change anything tick the relevant boxes and it will change to the naming standard adopted, it will also tell you what you are missing.  

 

Sorry not the best tutorial....

Missing quite a few on this one; even with the fills included.  Looks like most of them are SWP roms.  Can you help me out with the missing roms?

You do realise that you are changing the Caption/Title in the layout and therefore removing all the layout creator/author info ? And also blowing away the RAM file originally released with the layout ?

 

I don't think that's on tbh, it's taking the piss!

Yes I realise. It's done for a reason. People are not forced to use them. They are mainly for emulation collectors NOT FME users.

As for taking the piss... Let's not go there eh?

Ah so changing the fml file to remove the authors name etc is done for a reason? Sorry, it's still taking the piss.

 

And removing the original RAM file will leave machines empty, silent or unable to take notes.

Sorry have to jump on this as you are affecting work I release.

 

It does take the piss where designers offer layouts for download and you are pulling them apart and making changes and distributing them in a way that was not fit how they were originally done.

 

So let’s look at ram files.

 

These can contain REFILL, BNV, Cash Pots and other settings.  You splitting and modifying layouts for the purpose that you choose breaks the original and more importantly makes the release in some ( not all cases ) look like it’s been done by a f*****g idiot who can’t put a layout together.

 

So I need to ask, why do you choose to share my layouts with no credit to myself ( but people like WaC and others get credit for the work they’ve done ) and also choose to alter them for your own naming convention.

 

My real concern here is the RAM files, your f*****g some layouts up.

 

Other designers put their names and release dates in the captions etc.  What right do you have to modify that without asking ?

The dats are for 'collectors' not FME nuts. Factory reset and to a uniform naming convention. Been doing them for 17 years and no one has complained before. I would advise just to not use them and have your collection the way you prefer them. The collectors prefer them this way.

No he's saying that you have deliberately removed the credit from the layout by changing the Caption and resaving the layout. So then nobody can tell who the original author was.

 

This is not a necessary step in your renaming process and is an insult to the original author

I thank the rom providers when I know who they were.  In this case it might / might not have been MrX.  You need to check the flyers to see that.  As usual, you think you know everything but you will not be aware of ( to my knowledge ) of a private conversastion surrouding where these roms may have came from and my intention of NOT WANTING to release Alice so to NOT STEP ON TOES but I was asked to.

In the vast majority of cases the layout is NOT re-saved and only noted in the gam file hence once loaded (if any FMEr is using them) it will revert.  However like I said the vast majority of people who use these NEVER play them, never visit these boards and do not know who Reg, wearecity, DAD, Pook or anyone else is, or I imagine care.  Hence I do not know who the hell coded Galaxian or Moon Buggy..... or the 100s of thousands of other coders who have made roms I collect.  

 

However is Reg crediting the coder of the original roms, the artwork designer etc etc?  No... and yes I know he's not altering them to remove stuff in the case of roms but more than certainly in the cases of flyers where do you draw the line...

 

Also I find your post rather ironic to say the least.  Made me giggle...

Ask the rom provider to contact me and I will thank them, otherwise I can't as I don't know or recall where they originally came from.  I'll happily change that flyer, not a problem...  ...I will be glad to and I am very sorry that they had to reach out to you to share that they were rather miffed.  Thank you for sharing this with me.

 

Please let them know I will change the poster - or simply tell me who it is and I'll do it. 

 

...and yes you have f***ed up, by stripping designer names from the games you just will not accept it.

 

I am wondering now that there is also case in point that you've been doing it wrong for 17 years buy not including the ram files, that is actually the bigger problem as some game will not work - but I guess that's unimportant to you or it shows how little your .DAT files are actually used.

 

I also did re-read the post.  Your meaning changed context where you say at the end of the thread link "I mean it's not as if I'm ripping out all the side art (something I do not like) and re-releasing them is it?".
