I may look at getting Scorpion 4/5 working.  If I do there would be some kind of control to prevent 'current' machines from running in public releases.  This is not to keep a 'hold' over the community or to make people jealous.  It's simply a matter of principles.

Thumbs Up!

It can be prevented. A simple CRC check of the loaded ROM and a ROM white list would be easy to implement.

It's not that surprising, but good to know :)

Quite a few machines were 'dual released' on EPOCH and Scorpion 4, which seemed odd at the time. I'd guess it's one of those 'inner, middle, outer' trail ones with shots and a super meter? You may find that more than one runs, especially since they are all clones of eachother, even if by different companies (AC GAMES, COOL GAMES, e.t.c.)

My 'Monster Cash' Came in the Eclipse Cabinate on Scorp4 seen its clone poker face on Epoch and Gold Miner on Epoch.

I totally respect principles... I always have, and I admire killcrazy for this stance.

What I don't and have never respected anyone for in FME is those who have repressed the scene, to near on extinction, because what they called their principles in not releasing emulators that the manufacturers wouldn't give a flying fig about using the 'current' and 3 year rule, which as I say has never existed or isn't a written law or rule of FME.

I think you and killcrazy are doing a sterling job, and although I haven't yet used your emulator since the first release (because if all the updates, which were needed to progress) and because killcrazy hasn't released his emulator yet, it doesn't mean I am still not interested or love FME - far from it... whilst I can I will do anything to make this scene survive...

...even if it ruffles a few feathers in the process ;)

Whilst the 3 year rule was never written down anywhere. We lost Empire Games support because of it.

The ONLY manufacturer to basically hand us ROMs and Artwork and all down the drain because the 3 year rule was not respected.

Emulation should be a preservation tool, not a tool to try and take the latest machines and find emptiers or tricks.

Well, as I have said, it is irrelevant to me about modern machines, empties and tricks.

But why did they make emulators, which inevitably knew would get out if they shared them, to run them then?

Yes I totally agree about preservation... I am all on for fruities of yesteryear and agree about empties and tricks, but MPU4, JPeMu when released were still current techs which easily ran machines from the period a decade ago. Releases were made for these newer games but no iron fist came smashing down on FME from the manufacturers.

I agree it was a blow to lose Empire when it happened. Their support of Roms etc were invaluable and their support of FME, and MFME in particular was a big boost, but in the long scheme of things, it really made little impact and resources for Empire still became available.

I'm not looking for an argument here... I really can't be arsed and have much more better things to do than that, but I have always had issue with the current and 3 year rule, and to be honest I thought we wouldn't ever have to mention it again.

Anyway, as I have said you both have my respect for the hard work you are putting into your emulators for the members if the scene, and although I don't hardly play the emulators anymore (because I use my iMac and MacBook computers now ;)), I still have my passion and love for the scene and will always put my point of view across.

It keeps us on our toes ;)

does this mean most astra machines are exempt from this rule if they were emulatable i mean the partytime and clones of are more than 3yrs old some 15 in fact and there,s no emptiers or tricks apart from the obvious extra nudge trick very simple to dx to as mimimum lamps lol, and if these manufacturers didn,t want us to learn about the "emptier tricks" then why do they still have the press cancel to slow down and 3 times hold trick and wouldn,t it be good for the arcades to have new machine emulated then the gambler would goto the real arcade and lose more money as even if you knew every feature/trick on the board the machine would still hold is percentage and be as tight as a crabs hole.
The more I do today, The less I do tomorrow.
Fme is alive and screaming into the 21st century!
Enjoy FME and Happy Gaming!!!!

There was no time limit on Empire, certainly not a three year rule.  That was just someones interpretation of the situation  Admittedly it was the release of a recent machine that done in the deal, but by then we had the goodies anyway.

As to what emulation is about.  It may be the case for MAME and arcade games that it was designed as a preservation tool, but I strongly suspect that finding emptiers and tricks was exactly what was on Wizzy's mind when he wrote and released fruit.exe and later MFME.  Not necessarily for himself, I suspect he wrote it to flog onto others so they did the finding he just reaped the sales of the emulator.  The scene came about because he decided to give the thing away when the manufacturers came sniffing.  That is how I see it.  I suspect even now he has every tech coded in an emulator all the way up to MPU6 and uses it to try out strategies for play.

Well that proves there was a time limit. Whilst there were no set in stone rules, the 3 year rule is (was) a sign of respect towards the manufacturers.

You have to respect the fact that the ROMs and Artwork are commercial property of whichever manufacturer. They LET US do what we do on here, its all their IP and could close down FME in a heartbeat should they want to. I will admit that they don't really care at all about the older stuff like MPU4, M1a etc because its no longer a commecial concern.

I think its the responsibility of the whole scene to try and build a good relationship with the manufacturers as possible. To say "we got the goodies anyway" is particularly poor form. The manufacturers are not the enemy.

As for Wizard's motivation for emulation, well, lets just say I believe it is different to my motivation (preservation).

But unless things change dramatically then we wont see another MFME release anyway. Whilst I'm sure there are a number of people who want to play DOND, the same as Crazy Fruits before that, Its not a good idea to go emulating the modern games.

If Joe Bloggs want to use an emulator to gain an advantage he can write his own. I play fruit machines too, why go giving every Tom, Dick, and Harry the means to make sure every machine I play is dead?
