Poor Alton Towers...

Having such a bad time at the moment lol. Surely people would of had some idea that the release of the new smiler wasn't going to be smooth. But as of this post theres a 180 minute queue for customer services all requesting a refund because of the closure of the ride (and i think Rita may of gone down as well).

Just can't wait for the ride to finally settle in so i can go and give it a go.

Anybody else been recently?

Not for a couple of years, love it when I do though!!

I'll never understand how when a ride closes people would rather spend hours queueing at customer services instead of enjoying the rest of the day (used to happen all the time at a theme park I worked at).  I realise it's pretty disappointing but seriously?!  You can always write a polite letter when you get home...

Its been pretty well documented that that ride has been having teething troubles since it opened , so it cant really come as a surprise to find it was closed.. it has been for weeks i think.

Alton Towers is great , not been for a few years as its a bit of a hike for us up here , but it dosent matter when you go , there is always at least a 2 hour queue for the big rides.

Last time i went i had a letter from the doctor explaining that i cannot stand long periods , ( a long term medical condition ) and i was to take it to the customer services and get a 'queue jumping thingy' wristband , it was great , but you do make a lot of enemies...lol.

Mmmmmm...Sandy ive 'ad her ye know. :)

I went to chessington with the kids a few weeks back, they are 1 and 3 so it was animals, carosel and the tea cups all day, but one of the major rides (water log fume at the back in the far east area??) dragon khan?  says it wont be open again till winter 2014!!!

now, if I had gone there with adults there is no doubt I would have complained and asked for my money back. its not until you get within 100yards of it you know its closed.

From what I gather, Smiler went on test and didn't complete a full circuit of the track. To fix this they had to get a crane in to get the car back to the station, and they put the crane in X-Sector meaning that whole area was closed. No Oblivion, no Enterprise, no Submission etc. Rita going down if it did is yet another blow for that day.

I went recently before Smiler re-opened and that's all that wasn't working that day. Had a good time!

Someone took a pic of where it broke down:

I beleive also the flume had broke down, someone had said it had burst its banks or something.

CrAzYbAr your correct. Plus i'm pretty sure this has happened at least twice now were they've had to close the section off.

This pic made me laugh though (someones handy work in photoshop):

My queues were not nearly that long! Longest we waited was about half hour for Thir13en and this was a Tuesday half term! Guess the rain stopped people going lol

yes you do lol , we had to wait for hours only to see a bunch of def kids jump the queue , now while i appreciate being deaf is very lame it does not stop you waiting in a queue.

As for alton towers its awesome and if you ever get the chance go there for bonfire night the display is amazing and if you dont like the fireworks you can get on rides in minutes while its on , but id recommend watching as it is the best display ive ever seen , on a side note blackpool is pretty cool also
