Dementia Poem:
=============

Walk a while with me my friends, walk with me today.
Come and see what I see, and listen to what I say.

Yes, I have dementia, and sometimes it get worse.
Please be very grateful that you don’t have this curse.

But are we all that different, the likes of you and me?
We breathe the same, we feel the same, the same things we all see.

The only difference is my friends, I don’t feel that well.
When I don’t remember everything that you tell.

My heart beats just as quick as yours, my blood runs just as fast.
But because of my dementia, a shadow it does cast.

It’s the shadow cast by others, that takes away my light.
It turns my life into darkness, my pleasure into fright.

For when you cast that shadow, and it comes my way.
It drains me of my energy, makes me hide, or run away.

Sometimes I do things differently, and my mind is not my own.
But do YOU never talk to yourself, when you are alone?

So am I all that different, the likes of you and me.
So my friends, come walk a while, the future is you and me!

It was my friend's funeral from the dementia group I was in when we were first diagnosed today...

He chose his own time to leave, like 'thunderstorm' did - and who am I to criticise them for doing it.

I hope he is now at peace x

7th dementia anniversary
====================

Well... it is on this day in 2011 ( 7 years ago) that I went to the QMC hospital in Nottingham and was given the diagnosis of early onset Alzheimers Disease (dementia).

Ive been a long way, both physically and mentally, since that day, but Ive gotten by with the love and support of my immediate family and a few very good friends... and the support of the majority of my friends here on the forums too.

Im still active here... I intend to still remain active as long as I can even though physically and mentally it is getting a little more difficult to do.

...you wont get rid of me that easily!

Thank you all for your support, itll always mean a lot x

Hey, you remember the date every year so that must be a good sign,

and if the time comes when you forget the anniversary,

at least you won't worry about it because you won't remember.

Glass half full mate!

Hi Daryl,

Just read through a few of your posts mate. Really hope you're okay.

Try and stay positive (as best as you can) and I hope you have many more anniversaries. Hopefully there'll be a cure in the not too distant future.

Take care

:-)

I'm not having a great time at the moment, especially with regards to my care...

As this might be viewed as a political point of view, for the discretion of this site's policy I won't comment on it as a post, but link you all to my website's latest update, which includes a link to an article my local newspaper has done with me with regards to my care support...

Stan posted the link on his FB thread.  I don't understand it.  Assuming you've no savings, how does the Council expect you to pay for your care?  Do you think you've a magic money tree or summat.  It's crackers.

As this isn't a political debate I'm starting, but an ethical and emotional one, and one that concerns a condition my mother and I are suffering from, I would like to hear your views and reasons on whether this is a good or bad decision made by people in the early stages of dementia...

Please discuss without insulting others opinions and remember that behind this story, this illness actually affects me, so it does have meaning...

My Mam to be given 'end of life' care

I have been told today by the ward doctor that my Mam has between 3 to 6 months left to live.

I am very upset, but also very relieved, that this long journey with Alzheimer's Disease with her is now coming to a natural end. I have authorised a 'do not resuscitate' (DNR) for her future care, which will, when she is discharged from hospital, be then taken over by her GP in her care home for the remainder of time left.

I love her always and forever - and have done my best for her as her son, considering I have the same illness as her... I wouldn't have it any other way and will make her last few precious months with me as pain-free and love-filled as possible - something my whole life has been with her anyway.

Sorry to hear of your sad news Daryl, my heart goes out to you, I still remember the pain when my mother passed away some 34 years ago.

I know how close you are to her, it's the 'letting go' that makes it all the more difficult and the decisions you have to make. I know it's an awful place to be and you have enough personal issues on top of this.

Take it day by day, everyone here is with you to help you through these sad times.

I'm right in the middle of a 'life changing' traumatic situation at the moment (non medical though).

Life can be sh1t sometimes, but it's your friends and family who get you through the dark times.

My Thoughts are with you.

Take Care

Ricardo.
