Hmmm...wierd cos it runs ok on my PC.

Although i do have 3GB ram and a dual core +4800 cpu (2.41ghz) dunno if 'lower end' spec PC's and craptops might kinda struggle with it.

If the general consensus is that its messing up too many folks machines ill put a thread up in the staff area FAO Duplu to take it off.
Mmmmmm...Sandy ive 'ad her ye know. :)

its not that it needs taking off

i dont mind it but when im multi tasking it does get a bit laggy

& mines not far off yours todd

1.8ghz dual core
2gb of ram

but its an intel GFX Chipset which s 99% of the problem >=/

im sure there will be an option like on the mecca :)

I find it funny really. I sympathise with the problems some are having, slowing down laptops ect..., but I'm sure those with these problems are in the very small minority.

I wonder if Boots will turn off their shitty music as I'm a miserable bastard and hate Christmas.

Or that the police at the station near me push their cars past my house on a night so as not to wake me up if they drive them past.

Maybe Greggs, just for me, will not put tomato's in their pre-made sandwiches as I'm not all that keen.

Oh yeah. And it'll be 'slaps' for my mam if she's watching telly when I go around her place on Boxing Day.

Could you guys not adjust your PC settings? Reduce the screen res or find out other ways of releasing resources.

We are all guests here. Me included. The site is provided as is. If the site didn't work for me, I'd have to accept that. And it would be up to me to remedy that. This is life unfortunately.

If your car ain't fast enough, you need a better one. Try asking the Transport Agency if they will start to make all new roads go downhill.

K folks......

There is a fault with firefox v3.5.5 and v3.5.6 (Released the past few days), where on this site and the mecca, the pages will rag the f*** out of your hard drive for some reason, especaly on machines with low ram / cpu's.

IE though does not have the same problem.

I actualy thought I got hit by a virus again, but I managed to get the same fault, come up on my linux rig, also running firefox, and that is a sck939 amd athlon 3600 64 / 2 gig of memory, so is normaly more than ample enough to run most stuff, especaly web browsing, but use SuSE's other browser Konkquer, and that works fine, just like IE on my windows machines.

Realy need to find a way to perm turn the snow storm theme off by default on user accounts, to sort this for now.

k, just visited Mozilla's IRC Support chat.... looks like a scripting issue with the snow, so for a temp workround in Firefox, use No Script or an ad blocker to control it, but be warned, you need to set it right.

Chat log is posted here, but we really need a way to perm turn off the snow at least.

[9:55pm] sm14|lappy: meh. this interests me because I'm wondering if the folks that wrote the snow intended it to be used at that number of flakes/speed
[9:55pm] or if they are making assumptions about browser optimisations

[10:13pm] sm14|lappy: looks like crucial parameters are speed of snow falling
[10:13pm] ajonat (ajonat@CDBF9B41.4BF5A22.427E0E7B.IP) has joined. «161 people»
[10:13pm] and animation interval
[10:13pm] sm14|lappy: but it is still kind of CPU hungry
[10:13pm] sm14|lappy: looking to see if the flakes do anything that might cause any recalculations on firefox' part

[10:20pm] sm14|lappy: oh. I see another possible suspect
[10:20pm] sm14|lappy: I notice the flakes are not correctly stopping when they leave the viewport
[10:20pm] sm14|lappy: so, they make the window grow and grow
[10:20pm] scrollbars continuously extending
[10:20pm] sm14|lappy: that constant updating could be the issue

[10:26pm] hm. going to have to fire up firebug on this one...
[10:26pm] like you said earlier, must be a different JS setting for each browser used
[10:27pm] ...with the FF one being the one set in such a way, FF dislikes
[10:27pm] well. screenX of -4 is definitely a bug in the storm script
[10:27pm] on my monitor it should be 1264

Seams to be related to snowstorm.js, and The Mecca will experience the same issues.
