OK - Got a new Laptop coming with Vista home edition on it. I'm thinking about putting XP on it which is what I currently use, only because I know nothing about vista. Question is:
Do I keep the vista on or change to XP - Also Pros & Cons of Vista vs XP?
Any advise would be appreciated.

would it be possible to partition the HD and place XP on the second partition therefore you have the best of both worlds.

best suggestion is to trial Vista for a bit and see how you go.
Right now its a bit like Marmite, either you love it or you hate it. I used it for a few months and was pleasantly surprised with it. The only reason I went back to XP was that iTunes wasnt compatible with a 64 bit OS at the moment so if I wanted to use it I had to go back to XP for the moment. However I would have no qualms about going back to it again.
Some will come here and tell you Vista is rubbish, most have probably not even tried it to come to that assumption so dont be swayed by what other people tell you. Give it a go for a while and see what you think, if your not fussed with it format and install xp

maybe in a couple of years i might think about switching to vista but until then i'll stick to what i know best

Vista, it is great. It gets a lot of bad press and there are a few bugs in it but nothing that stops you doing anything.
The new search facilities alone make it worth while.

this is what concerns me about vista until its actually 100% bullet proof with all the glitches n software probs i'd rather jus stick to xp till microsoft fix all

dont stop you doing anything ?
hmm apart from the fact its not backwards compatable with some software that is
microsoft Visual Basic 6 for example as well as some others
oh and all the blue screens of course
but yes its all personal taste
once they got all the bugs out and let me use the programs i want to then yeah i will go to vista - till then XP is for me.

I use vista ultimate edition and i never have problems,no bugs,no blue screens,it boots up and shuts down faster than xp and i find it so cool,i would'nt go back to xp even though i used it for years but ultimately the choice is yours!

i had no bugs or software issues whatsoever in my time using Vista.
The only thing that caused me to change back was not a situation caused by vista, it was caused by apple not supporting a 64 bit OS.
Otherwise everything ran perfect. As I say, try it for yourself and see what you think

£6, depending on laptop I reckon you will come into problems finding drivers. They WILL be out there but for another model.
I installed XP on my Advent and could not get XP drivers for my soundcard and a couple of other things, ended up using some HP drivers.
Eventually I went back to Vista using the restore partition. If yours has one dont wipe the restore and you can easily go back.

Buy shite, get shite support.
Real manufacturers provide drivers for both.
