Hey everyone, just thought I'd share with everyone a project I am currently trying to complete. I am attempting to make a fruit machine emulator cab that plays, pays and takes coins like real fruit machines. I've already made a "front end" that does most of the work, but I've been trying hard to get hoppers and a coin mech going over the last couple of months.

Coin mech was easy to get going and I shared a video around a month ago of this working:

http://vid128.photob...zpswqewfdua.mp4

I've done a bit more work to this, and Ive made a proper loom for the coin mech and it takes all coins. So thats all complete now and ready to move into my custom cab whenever I get around to making it.

---

The hopper was a slightly harder thing to get going. I needed an interface board to allow the hopper to connect to a PC, and the hunt for the correct type of hopper that would work with the interface board proved more difficult than I thought it would be, mostly down to not doing my homework properly. I needed either a Azkoyen or a Cube hopper as the traditional fruit machine compact hoppers sadly do not work with them (although some people would be able to engineer them to work, but that's beyond my capabilities) But then it needed to be a parallel hopper, not cctalk. and also have the exact pin-outs I needed. Anyway, Whilst waiting to find the correct hopper it allowed me to spend a lot of time developing a front end to work with MFME and the equipment I've got.

The front end allows me to:

Add and play layouts, as many as you want.

Bulk change various layout settings such as Percentage.

Hides the MFME window so it is purely the machine that is showing.

Total control via buttons so that a mouse and keyboard are not needed.

Add favourite machines so you can select them quickly without having to go through the pages.

Full hopper control including engineers menu (dump, pay balances, show machine meters.

Saves a full log file to keep track of what the player has been doing.

Full coin mech support.

Its not totally finished yet, and is intended solely designed to work with the exact equipment I have, but it does work as it stands today.

Work commitments mean this project is going to be a lengthy one, but I will get there in the end.

Anyway, a quick video of the hopper working for anyone that's interested.

Couple of things to note in the vid is that ive not got the coin mech attached at the moment so am using keyboard but coin mech does work normally.

Windows taskbar is totally hidden when in proper use.

Sorry about the lengthy gameplay on Red hot X, I was just waiting for a reasonable bank to collect.

The "Machine will pay out...." box will not appear when finished, that's just for debugging.

Hope you enjoy.

Hi nick. Many thanks for your offer. But I am going to be making a my own cab for it. The main problem with a normal cab is the lack of buttons. Since this will be running seveal different games all with different amounts of buttons and combinations I need to have around 20 buttons including some around the screen which will be used to navigate the game selection screen and the various buttons on each machine. Also I am making it slightly smaller than a normal machine so that it can be moved about easier. But cheers for the offer . I did origally consider a ready built donor cab but felt it would have too many limitations.

Hey everyone. OK. So a month or so later and I managed to get around to start working on my cabinet for my machine parts to go into. Its taken me around 5 full days to get from a few sheets of MDF to what is there in the pics and video.

The cab currently takes all coins and routes them correctly into 10p/£1 hoppers or reject or bottom cash tray and pays out in £1s and 10p.

Buttons are all wired up although the decals in them are all wrong so ignore that. Im going to make my own eventually.

Refill key is there too which brings up my own custom refill menu.

Left to do (There is still a lot)

Add a coin tray at the front where coins exit from.

Get buttons all correctly labelled.

Add lighting to the bulbs (still awaiting parts for that to happen)

paint the entire cab as it looks terrible at the moment.

Put locks to the back door and bottom cashbox door (Will be a rear door opener on this cab)

Add a switch to side of cab which acts as an on/off switch

tidy up the wiring inside a bit including adding a multi socket in there so only need to have 1 plug coming from the machine.

But as you can see, its coming along nicely. Coin routing has been my biggest headache. I was originally going to use plastic tubing, but because I only made this cab 1.1m tall, it doesnt leave much room for the tubes to fall so the coins get stuck in the tubes wherever there is a slight turn. Instead I've made wooden shoots from the mech to the hoppers and tubes are still used for reject and cash box as they are directly below the mech.

Still needs a slight adjustment though as around 1/20 coins get lost somewhere.

Hope you enjoy. Just something I wanted to make as I have no room for any more than 2 machines in the house and wanted something I could play many machines on. Paying out and taking coins was the biggest thing I missed from playing machines on your PC.

BTW I am aware my woodworking skills etc are not great. This is the very first thing Ive attempted with wood and since I am a complete amateur I dont think its too bad. Once painted it will look a lot better. Will be adding some led lighting to it hopefully too.
