you geeks need something real in your lives. getting angry about newbies posting a pretty fair question is harsh especially since you cant solve it for laptops!!!!!!!!!!

Ady is being polite, I don't see why, with a post like that you are fair game......

Please don't presume to know anything about the members of this site. We all have real lives and not all of us can sit around on the forums all day waiting to respond to requests for information. The noobs that you mention have managed through the aid of a search engine to get here and to register as members. Having done that they download the emulators and a couple of layouts and then start acting like they have had a prefrontal lobotomy and start posting some old shite about DOND or how can they get a wonderful looking 1600 dx working on some shitty 800 * 800 notebook.

The question around seeing the whole machine had been answered hundreds of times in posts on this forum and probably as many posts in the shout box. All we ask is that members search fot the answer to a question - there is a section on tutorials; you never know the answer may just be in there.

As to you point about not being able to solve it for laptops, well Wizard did build MFME 3.2 with a rescale option and as far as I am aware that version plays most of the available layouts and will rescale them to the screen size available. It is true that for newer machines that need MFME 9.x or 10.x, the rescale is not available, but that is probably because those versions of the emulator weren't written for public consumption, at least at the time they became available.

If you want the newer machines available on a smaller screen size you have a lot of options available.

1. Ask Wizard to put rescaling into 9.x or 10.x
2. Ask Wizard to release a later version of MFME with rescaling available on all layouts
3. Write your own emulator that will rescale all layouts
4. Use a third party piece of software that allows scrolling such as VirtualBox
5. Buy a bigger screen
6. Wait until Amber is released and see if that delivers what you need
7. Wait until FME in MAME is released and see if that delivers the goodies
8. Choose layouts that do fit your screen size or can be resized on the existing emulators

Just remember the layout designers spend hours of effort making sure the layouts look good at the chosen size. It is impossible for some layouts to display in anything smaller than 1280 as the layout features would be illegible.

Don't forget another possible solution/workaround for laptop users.

Under the graphic/display properties, see if there is a box checked, which says hide modes this monitor cannot display.

Basically if you uncheck it, you should be able to select a higher resolution.

It does mean the display will scroll if you touch the top or bottom of the screen, but I was able to play 1600 and 1920 MFME v9.4 and later DX's on my 8.9" Fujitsu laptop screen by doing this.

In some cases depending on the layout resolution, it is possible to have the DX showing with just the top of the cabinet and/or the buttons missing, if you don't like the scroll.

Just bought a new 15.4" laptop and specfically got a 1920 res screen so I could definately play all the MFME layouts.

A frequent problem for FME users this, there are 2 possibilities that contribute to this

1) You have a 17" or so monitor on a small resolution
This should be easy to fix, by increasing the resolution through the control panel.

2) You are a laptop user with a smaller screen
Unfortunately there is little that can be done about this. Your laptop will have a smaller resolution than a standard 17" screen. You will have to download a smaller version of the layout(if it is available)

So..........What can YOU do about it!
1) If the machine is running on MFME 3, your layout should be able to be auto resize
2) If your layout is running on BFMu, you won't see the whole machine but scrolling up and down using keys should work.
3) If your machine is not running on these emulators, IE it is on 9.4, you will have to download a smaller version for your screen.

Please check the size of the layout you are downloading, it is available on the download page for the layout or on the release thread

1024DX Min resolution required 1024x768
1280DX Min resolution required 1280x1024*
1600DX Min resolution required 1600x1200

* Be aware running on a laptop with resolution 1440x900, you will not be able to see the bottom of the machine either.

FOR MORE INFORMATION! There are more replies on the same sticky topic in General FME Discussion however I dont really know how to copy entire threads yet...Bear with me on it, but for the meantime do check that post there aswell if you can't figure it out.

I found that if you right click on the laptop screen and sort your screen orientation to portrait that can help with not seeing the whole screen, however on my particular laptop the mouse pad gets messed up. Won't be the same for everyone ,i've already got used to the controls

You could always do what I did...

First select the 'Design' option & 'Edit mode'. (MFME 9.4)

Next, flip the screen orientation to landscape, 'as above'. ('short cut' ctrl+alt left arrow)

Now select all the parts of the fruity you cant normally see & drag them to the top part of the machine.

Then flip the screen back to portrait (Crtl+alt up arrow).

Drag all the selected graphics to the right hand side of the screen.

Finally de-select 'Edit mode'.

You now have a fruity in two parts... reels on the right, top board/features on the left.

Not ideal but playable.

That's what I did 'split screen, or if there's a certain Layout you really wanna play you could always request a smaller version to be made 1024 or have a go at emulation creation if the artwork's available.
