Hallelujah

The day has finally arrived and I know many of you will be in shock.

But yes they have finally removed those high stakes from those manipulative slots in the bookies, from the stupid heights of £100 a spin to £2 a spin!

About time too, the industry is up in arms but I think it is a fair compromise, whilst I have never put a penny in one of the FOBT's I know that many people on here have done from time to time but how many people play at a stake of more than £2 anyway?

Taken too long to do but progress has been made.

The industry is up in arms as they've had it too easy for far too long. If they'd of nipped it in the bud and not let it become as rampant as it is then none of these "Thousands" of job losses would occur.

It's an industry that shouldn't of existed. I wonder how long it will be before the 2nd Betfred in my town will close down. Rarely see anyone placing bets but the FOBTs are always busy!

Shame that, I bet if they put the price up it would overnight, anything that benefits the public always takes a age to come through, yet anything that makes life harder is instant!!! That's governments for you.

What is wrong with a simple £50 jackpot payout machine for example?

Why have such big stakes etc etc?

Just limit them, people don't get into debt but go back to having a "game" instead of coinslot filling zombies.

at the end of the day, the stake reduction to £2 from £100 will make no difference...

a compulsive gambler will still spend every penny in their pockets...it will just take longer to loose it all, but the end result will be the same...FOBT-WIN, ... PUNTER-LOOSE.

I got an email from sky news this morning from the reporter I did an interview with. He asked how I felt and I said delighted but the new focus now is to online sites. They need to be more regulated too. Having a top stake of £400 a spin on some games is just stupid.

Basically yeah. They don't have £2 stakes and £72 prizes in the arcades do they. Roulette was and should be a casino game it doesn't belong on the high street or on the corner of some run down housing estate.

Just thinking about this £2 limit, ok that's fine for the slots as it's already £2 but what about those "big bet spins" where it's upto £50 for 5 mega spins or whatever they're called.
And roulette is that £2 total bet or £2 per number/position as in 35+0 numbers red\black etc if so and you bet on every square isn't that almost £100?
End of the day it's all about control by the player some have some don't same goes for online slots, we've seen the likes of rock n roller and bandits losing very large sums in minutes where as myself I can usually limit myself to minimum stakes or just above depending if I'm up on my deposit by enough.

IIUC the £2 limit is per play so for roulette it'd be a £2 total stake. Good thing this - and I think that the bill also allows for upcoming legislation for online.

This is, I think, a sign that the attitudes to gambling are changing in government (as they are in society) in a similar way to smoking. Used to be tolerated and applauded in some ways for the revenue - now seen as a menace that causes a lot more harm than the revenue warrants.

100% could not have put that any better myself, and i have never put a penny in them either.

It's great news but (as stated by several members),an overhaul is more than due across the entire industry.

No gaming outlet should ever have been allowed the high stakes that were on those vile slots.

Yet as stated in many responses, online gambling is just as destructive if not worse. Armed with a debit, credit or other payment device you can add what you want, when you want 24/7 and unless you agree to a given restriction there is no limit to what you can gambol!

But it does not stop there,in the bingo halls ive witnessed on many occasions(mainly woman but some men too)playing not one £500 jackpot slot but up to 6 units at a time! That's £12 a spin (across the 6 units)! :err:  :nah:

And the bingo staff sat back, never intervening or questioning what is happening.

Have also witnessed similar situations in arcades too.

But again government and gaming bodies are not made fully aware of this,

Ive only been in a casino twice, but I can imagine it is a similar situation.

The sad thing is(speaking as a former addicted slot player),it has become much more than addiction now,it has become(for some),greed and and an inner fear that some one else will gain/win the jackpot on a slot next to them or near to what that player is playing.

So I more than agree the £2 cap is more than a welcome relief, but there are many more matters to attend to.

Bingo halls also have increased the number of cards/tickets you can play on computerised screens, tablets and in some clubs full pc monitors.

Where you can play between 6 tickets and up to 140 tickets in some clubs, whilst also been able to play a selection of slots by depositing with your debit card!

Where is the restriction there? And how is that responsible gambling.

True some of us can restrict ourselves and set limits etc and walk away, but there are still 1000's of individuals who do not have that control, and never will.

Another hidden gamble-scratchcards! My sister in law only recently, accepted she had a problem and was buying up to £200's worth of the cards per week!

Are the shop assistants trained to suspect this type of gambling, same applies to the lottery.-How many of you have family who regularly put £100's on the lottery??

So many areas to look in to,the buck does not stop with the high street bookmaker.

If it was going up to £200 a spin you can bet it would have happened the next day!

If they "work a way around it" then they might well find that they just have a total ban - real shame that'd be :)

reckon i might be the only one who disagrees here. Yes i agree with a reduction, £50 would have been pointless, but £20-£30 would have done.

£10-£20 mega spins in arcades would have kept every bacta member quiet.

We've not heard the last of this, bookies will fight back and i wouldnt be surprised if the above stakes were given a go. we shall see!
