Yes i agree but the thread locking isn't on.

The eBay thread was actually getting somewhere by the looks of things and then the moment a moderators name was brought into question, the protection came down and it was locked - "thou shall not talk about this moderator".
 
The same group of moderators that are allowed to pursue a member and accuse him of being somebody else.

The ebay thread was locked because it was brought to my attention, whether correctly or not, that the ebay seller in question feels that he is being threatened and is considering involving the authorities.
It’s not within my remit to judge whether this is necessarily justified, but as a site we do have a duty to try to ensure that freedom of speech is balanced with the possibility or reality that someone is being harassed.

The Benjamoose thread was locked for more or less the same reason - I clearly stated the reasons when I locked it.

I imagine that some of the moderators might by quite angry that you’re bandying such generalised accusations around?

+1 to you, rally the mods against me !  But don't worry, they're often pissed at if you look through FME history.  It'll just be another item to add to their list and chat about on facebook...

 

So question - why were the moderators allowed to participate and be part of the hunt against Benjamoose.  Can you please answer why this is ok on your ship ?

The eBay stuff is interesting, your reply is a well thought out defence - but this is very strange that this has happened as soon as one of your mods was brought into it ?

 

Assuming this is true what you have said - this is GREAT NEWS.

 

The chap is not being harrassed. He is selling work off people that he ripped it from - designers are simply trying to stop this.  Also - you now know excatly who this person is who is being threatened so you can take action against the account - have you done this if what you say is true ?

You would then be in a position to notifiy forum owners of who this person is - so as a group we could ban them and stop at least his happening for the time being.

 

I look forward to the post where you re-open the eBay thread and tell your users that you now know who downloaded them and the member is banned and you've shared the info with other forum owners so we too can do the same.

 

Looks like the mystery is over, Geddy is in the clear as to whatever it was that has been found and everything is ok and we can get back to whatever it is we do here.

Ps... I guess he is declaring his income from his sales to HMRC for taxation purposes or even Benefits agencies if he us claiming...

Nothing to do with rallying the mods, but I do feel that they should all be allowed to respond to your accusations in person, rather than being lumped together as all having been harassing someone via an alleged Facebook thread of which I have no knowledge?

Additionally, moderators are allowed to have their own thoughts and opinions. They are not robots and they are not directly accountable to me (although they are bound by an informal code of conduct).

I still don’t know if the ebay seller in question actually has an account here or not. You’re making a lot of assumptions without any evidence. I have been told by PM on here by a member who has been in contact with the eBay seller, that that is their perception of what is happening. I don’t particularly care if you believe me or not - it’s up to the member who PM’d me as to whether they want to back me up - I’m certainly not going to publish their PM.

If I thought Geddy was selling DVD's, I would say GEDDY IS A THEIF AND SELLING DVD'S, note that I am not saying that - it's you that brought the DVD issue and Geddy together - if that is what you think is happening then fine, I have no idea.

Fact is, your moderators may not be robots that you mentioned above - but their actions - their values - represent the values of your forum.

...out of respect for the health problem you have mentioned and I really wish you a f*****g speedy recovery so we can carry this on ( just kidding about carrying on ), I am going to stop posting about this and I am going to drop off this thread right now as I have made my point.

I am not even going to reply to anything else that comes up surrounding this for anyone else that challenges as I've been dealing with the forum owner here who clearly wants this to end and he is the highest authority within the land on this site.

Sorry for the late arrival.  I've been rather busy this evening.

 

My personal slant on this and other issues.

 

1) I've known for a little while Alex is rather ill and needs surgery.  This IS THE MOST IMPORTANT aspect here.  He needs our TLC.

 

2) I said 'welcome back' in the Ben intro thread.  That is all I said, the reason being his account was made over three years ago and approx the same time another member well erm..... 'left.'

 

3) Yes I've been involved in chat about the possibility of Ben being someone else in other parts of the internet.  I'm sure I'm allowed my opinion to which is I'm suspicious.  The language style, the long WIPs, the fantastic back stories etc etc are all too familiar and if the are to me then they are to others.  'We' as a group can spot the similarities a mile away.  We are super cautious due to past damage done.  Can we be blamed for that?

 

4) DVD sale thread, completely pointless IMO.  You are never going to stop it.  Stickers, locking, reporting is pointless.  Again after all we are the one using copyrighted material to further our hobby, are we without blame.

 

5) I actually suggested the thread regarding the DVDs should be closed or whatever long before the 'trouty' reference as like I said above it's pointless and was only going to cause unrest which of course it did.  The decision to lock it as far as I'm concerned was made by the admin here and not influenced by 'troutygate.'

 

6) I've never had an FTP so i) don't update it weekly and ii) it can't be used to provide layouts for this scumbag.

 

7) Yes I altered the caption/title of layouts for uniformity purposes when I made the layout DATS.  Once the layout was loaded it reverted back to the original anyway.  This point was made numerous times but the people arguing with me over this at the time did not seem to grasp this.  I've kept my promise and not made layout DATs since, although I've been asked to by the wider emulation community on many occasions.

 

8) I'm not sure how me altering temporarily a line in a gam file PROVES I alter layout graphics and then provide them to a DVD re-seller.  I mean really...

 

9) The mod process here was done democratically and has worked well, apart from this week I've not really been called into action over mod issues, no real problems have occurred so why now our heads are being demanded on a platter is absurd.  Are the member's here turning into a bunch of Nicola Sturgeons?

 

10) IMO the mods here do a good job and are not protected.

Firstly I am sorry Alex to hear of your serious health issues and wish you a speedy recovery after your visit to hospital.

No one wants to go back to the 'dark days' of FME and since the Mod vote everything has been a lot better.

However as this thread shows it does not take much for the makings of another 'mutual battle' and unrest amongst the FME community.

Yes, we all have different views and we have a democratic right to express them, but not at the cost of  possibly losing the site as a result of it, as Alex has a more important priority on his agenda at this moment !!!!!!

Sorry nice try, but it doesn't come back as I explained countless times in that thread, so that invalidates point 8 also, and nowhere was it suggested you alter layout graphics.

 

This was originally pointed out to me via another person who first spotted it.

 

Why would a start a slanging match if the changes were temporary?

I personally wouldn't lock a thread.

 

I would however delete or hide one if I felt a FME threat/issue.

 

Only ever done this twice. Only the other day, Ploggys ripped of layout, see ya! And about 6 months ago someone posted they could hack a current machine. Something that is pretty dangerous to be on a public forum, IMO.

First of all Alex..... we may not get one that great, but I don't need to remind you that health comes first, and is good that you are taking care of that, so you will have no quarms from me for doing that, so all the best, and hope you can get it sorted.
