Barcrest MPU4 machine - dead

29 September 2020 - 02:01 PM

Hi guys,

Have a Rocky Horror machine, when turned on the ONLY thing that is visible is the red 5v LED on the MPU4. Absolutely nothing else, not one bulb, the reels aren't energized, nothing.

So far I have:

- Checked the fuses in the power supply

- Checked the fuses on the two sub boards in the cabinet

These are all okay.

I have replaced the MPU4 processor board with another known working one. Just the same.

I feel like this is power related, where are the best test points to check the voltage rails?

Or does anyone recognise this  description and able to suggest something more?

Many thanks !

Ant.

MPU4 power supply 'flickering bulbs' repair

16 June 2020 - 03:38 PM

Hello,

I have recorded a video of me replacing capacitors in an MPU4 fruitmachine power supply.

I know most of these old machines flicker but wanted to see if replacing the caps in the PSU would make it better, and it did :-)

Posting here as I thought you may find it useful.

Let me know if you have any comments.

MPU4 problems after battery replacement

28 February 2020 - 07:18 PM

Hello,

The VFD stopped working on my MPU4 machine (Rocky Horror) I took out the board and found the old battery leak problem.

The tracks directly under the battery were shot as were a few around the battery. Mostly the VFD lines.

I have patched over and tested continuity. Clean and put new battery in.

Now when I switch on, the machine initializes normally. Reels set, all the lights work, VFD all looks ready to go....

Except;

- Does not recognise coins.

- None of the door switches / test switch do anything.

I can't see it being a track repair I've missed as the switches and coins were working before, it was just the VFD alphanumeric that was not on.

Does the unit need programming somehow to recognize these parts again..?

Any help appreciated.
