wow 1gig just shows what i know lol. and at $215 a month i think id give it a miss but wonder how long it would take to d/l films, probably if you got 1gb d/l speeds would take 4.7 secs:eek: for a full dvd.

Andy

i think you've got your rates mixed up badly.

Internet speeds are measured in bps (bits per second) while Windows file system is measured in bytes. So there's a x8 difference.

so for example most people are on 2 Megabit bandwidths, which is 0.24 Mbytes per sec. So 1 Gbit connection is 120 Mbyte/sec so your single layer DVD download would actually take 40 - 50 seconds

It would also largely depend on the hosts speed and bandwidth that he was allowing/ users on etc.. You could have a 20gb connection but if you connected to my nans modem it would take 9.7 hours to download her knitting patterns. or something...

This is sadly very true. All that having a fast internet connection does is give you that happy peace of mind that the poor download speed you are getting is down to the hosting site. Still, even though it has slowed down somewhat, I'd not say that the downloads were particularly slow - I still get 30-40 Kbps minimum and the last couple I tried came down at over 500...

Her knitting patterns would not compress to any .PYJ or .AMAS formats I have tried but did get them in to a woolly jumper with a ZIP up the front.. But the problem is her patterns are in her head so I would have to send her head via the internet - What sorts of speed would that be?? I mean I tried to find out but as soon as I put in the search engine wanted to send it to someone who wanted head the SAFE filter cut in.. Maybe I should just scan her head in and forward it.. Not sure she would want to put her head in the scanner but I can only ask..

I have just realised I am waffling on ---- so apologies..

Sorry Andy bad Quote originally from me.........your original is in full here so people who don't read the thread fully can see where it's taken from.

I was generalising and was supposted to omit your name...Just use your words as a majority of things posted in threads.

I apologise for that.

I never complained about the download speeds - I think they are very fast - I have only just got a permanent connection but as soon as I can afford I will donate, just have to get some money to do it.. < Never complained though as I think it's fast speed.

Yep it's in China - and has a massive non-chinese population.. We should never have given it back.. They treat the locals who aren't Chinese like rubbish apparently.. :(

I went there, they treated me just the same as everyone else.
