Hypothetically you have finished work and walking to the train station, you live about 15 - 20 miles away from work.

Your passing a fruits arcade on the way to the station and decide to have a play of one or two machines.

So you’ve been playing the machines or stuck to a particular machine and you end up running a loss and all you have left is your last fiver!

You have a feeling the machine is going to jackpot at £25 or give a decent payout. You’ve already lost about 40 quid.

Would you turn and walk away to get the train or would you play your last fiver knowing if you lose this, you need to try sneak on the train or walk a long way to get back home? 🤣

Well as you can probably guess since I asked the question, yes it happened to me!

Stupidly back in my younger days I walked into an arcade on my way to the train station after work and put a couple of quid into 2 machines.

These were cops and robbers and legionnaire I think but. I can remember only getting back the couple of quid back that I put in.

I seen someone playing a machine and they had put at least 20 coins in. That machine was one I had played a few times and one I was familiar with, it was rolling thunder.

I started to play the machine, which would play ok but I was losing money when trying to force a payout of any more than a fiver.

Before I knew it, I had burned through about 40 quid and only had a fiver left for my train fare.

I thought about what was the best thing to do because the machine had at least £60 put into it, I think it was a £25 JP and had a feeling that it was due to go sometime. I also didn’t want to let someone else just walk up, put in a couple of quid and get a decent payout. I also thought but if I lose then I’m gonna have a problem trying to get home which was about 15 miles away.

After considering my options I decided to stupidly take the risk and play my last fiver, pound coin by pound coin! All I thought about was if I lose I’m gonna need to either try and ride the train and not get caught or walk it.

First quid, nothing...

Second quid, nothing...

Third quid, nothing...

I had two quid left in my hand, I knew it was too late and should’ve just walked away but there was nothing I could do except play my last two quid!

I put in the two coins and in my first couple of plays I jackpotted it twice with a little bit extra, think I walked away 10 to 15 quid up that day and a bit wiser too!

Reading this you are probably wondering why has he written this! Well I don’t know, it’s a stupid risk I took back in my younger days that I think about sometimes when I play the emulations. I don’t really play fruit machines or gamble that much any more, plus being older and wiser I don’t need help , but I always play the emulations. Each machine and emulation for me has a memory of some kind and I suppose this is my memory of rolling thunder.

So what would you do in this situation or has something similar happened to anyone else?

Have you got particular memories of certain machines when playing some emulations?

but he'd still have to walk home, personally i'd catch the train before losing £40, be home earlier then donate £5 and spend some of the last £35 on a takeaway and beer

but in the dark days of my gambling (the 1990's)

i'd goto a club leave there at 3am with the taxi fare home maybe a fried chicken burger etc  but instead i used to spunk it all in a dodgy kebab house fruit machine on 60% lol then have 3/4 hour walk home sometimes in the rain too. so what do i know, the gambling bug affects people in different ways, its will power something i ain't got!!

Very true Vecs we all have that bug inside us and having a drink doesn’t stop us from playing lousy machines we know we have no chance of winning on or as you say the takeaway shop ones you know are well rigged!

I don't put a ton of money in Fruit Machines. So I would have retired 10 years earlier and not have to walk past the arcade !!!

Don't come round and steal my Cheerios !!!!
