So sorry to hear of your sad news Daryl, my deepest sympathies to you and your family.

The sadness is compounded by the fact that we are living in uncertain times at the moment.

Thank you for sharing such personal information with us all.

Take Care, Stay Safe.

Best Wishes

Ricardo.

Come here to post jokes, oh and to play the occasional frutie.

My Mam passed away last night at 11:36pm...

All the years she has had dementia and it is this bastard Coronavirus that has taken her - she is the first to get it in her care home.

Still, she is now free and at peace at long last.

Thanks guys for following my travels with her through our Alzheimer's Disease together, it has meant a lot...

Daryl xxx

Oh mate I'm so sorry to hear this.

Like you say, she's now at peace and pain free.

Being the loving son you are, you did everything you could and more for her.

Try to stay strong, only one more thing you can do for her now, and your job will be complete.

Job may seem the wrong word, but I've always thought that once a parent has raised you to be a decent person that's their part of the job done and time for their child/children to make sure they always do the best they possibly can to take care of the parent to the best of their ability.
Something which you've undoubtedly done.

Your job going forward is to look after yourself now.

Just like she would want.

Take care and as always, if you need me....

Sending you lots of love and positivity

Phil x

So sorry to hear such tragic news from you Daryl.

As Chasnbons said, there wasn't anymore you could do, you gave her your love and care for so many years.

This damned virus is causing so much sorrow and pain amongst families at the moment.

Take care Daryl, make sure you are safe and well.

Regards

Ricardo

Hi Daryl - again I am so sorry.

I actually want to "Like" your post but have not for it would be taken the wrong way.  My reason for it is the lovely tribute that you've shared for your dear mum here and it's really touching - in much the same way we see other things that trigger emotions.

I am proud that you feel you are able to share something so important as this here and know regardless of what site, what battles are going on you have reminded us all that we are all human and that it is okay to support each other and share in times of utter sadness.

I've liked Chasbon's post instread as he has some great words there and without retyping what he has said, if there is anything I can do then drop me a note.

The only thing I can share that might be of use - although everybody is different.

When I lost my mum, it took me a long while to get over it and the grief to be replaced.  What eventually did replace it was acceptance as what had happened which eventually consumed the grief and allowed me to deal with it.  It still breaks me - don't get me wrong - but having acceptance over time that took the place of grief really does help.  Never try to hurry emotions - let them come out when they need to, if you want to shout - scream or whatever - do it.  It's a release.

Most importantly take good care of yourself and thank you for sharing your lovely tribute to your mum.

My thoughts are with you, your family and my hopes are that you find a way through this and look after your good self.

My Mam hasn't got to have a post mortem and the coroner has said that her primary cause of death is from COVID19, with dementia being mentioned as secondary factor...

Her funeral can now go ahead as planned on Monday 11 May, from my home to the crematorium at 10:15am, and she can finally be at peace

Thanks for following me and my travels with my Mam and myself with dementia - after her funeral is over I am no longer going to carry on with this thread.

Take care,

Daryl x

Hi Daryl

Thank you for posting this here.

I have followed you and your mam's journey over the years, with those lovely photos of her and you in Morrisons for your weekly trip out, her nicking your jelly babies and the sadder times, with her in hospital, what 10 months ago now, when we all thought she might finally be free of that horrid condition.  Now, she is free and at peace and you have been absolutely solid in your positivity and support for your mam and it has been a pleasure to read about.

This thread was about you and your life through Alzhiemers, but I can fully understand if you want to stop updating it following the funeral.  Let me of any of the mods know if you woud like it locked after and it'll be done.

Say goodbye to her from me next week; I have never met her but feel I've known her all my life and am saddened by her passing but grateful she is at peace and calm.

Now that things are over, hopefully in this time of grief for me (it'll never be over, but you know what I mean, moving on from my Mam's funeral), I am now going to have this thread closed, but will allow a few days for comments... you've all supported and followed me through my dementia journey and with my Mam and stepdad Mac too when he was alive...

But there is one ask I will request, if it can be done, is this this thread be kept, but also archived and if possible, a copy of it sent to me to keep. I will then make it a link in my website... you've always shown me love and support here and I want to keep thise memories with me for as long as I can and to be always able to see then, long after this site has gone.

It has always been my intention, since the day I started this thread on the day of my diagnosis, to keep you informed of my progress and the troubles I had with looking after my Mam in the early days... it kept me going, knowing I had the love, strength and support here, but in time, that will be gone from this site - and I now feel that this is the right time to bring it to an end.

Thank you everyone, past and present, who have always shown me the love and support these last eight years on this journey, it really has encouraged me and given me the will to carry on at times when it just seemed pointless to do so... not in a suicide way, but when you just want to give up. Well, I didn't, I won't and promise I will carry on. My website (click here)  and Facebook will jeep most of you who know me updated in my journey, but I really do feel it is time to close this part of my journal here.

I will give this thread another week, and I will ask for it to be closed, kept, archived and hopefully copied so as can be continued to be read from my website.

Cheers my  dear and wonderful friends... my love to you all and thank you so much,

Daryl xxx
