I have just bought a Millionaire Gamebox 4 quiz from a local auction.
It is good condition but takes forever to startup.
It can take 1-2 hrs to fire up and get ready to play.
I have just removed the pc tray to change the cd rom drive to a new one to see if it helps.
I will also install an extra bit of memory to try and help.
I did notice when removing the dongle that it has a slot for a battery but non is fitted.
Is this correct or do i need to fit a battery. Also would anything else speed it up loading or is this normal.

Thanks

Thanks for that.
How do i boot into Windows 95 as it seems to be using a boot loader.
Also when i get into win95 to do a scan do you mean defrag of the drive or something different?

Cheers

Thanks for reply. I tried that but it just brings up "Re-aligning fat"
This clears after about 20 mins and the machine reboots.
Do i need to remove the cd disk to stop it booting or something?

Realigning FAT suggests the Hard Drive is on it's way out.

Just contacted JPM Service about this and they will supply me with a clear-down disk for £10 to fix this . They say it will help clear unnecessary temp files (Scandisk) held on the 3 partitions of the HDD plus it gives you the option of clearing the current games on the machine enabling you to re-install the compendium.
My only problem is that i don't have the original disk if i want to reinstall.
Can anyone help me or know how much it would cost for only the disk?

Thanks

these are just shitty quality PC's at the end of the day. As previously suggested you should be able to boot to windows via F8, however a defrag isn't going to do much good if the disk is on the way out, so I would try and go through windows tools. Taking hours to boot up, is suggestive of a disk on it's way out, I would certainly consider that.

Yep, upgrade hardware and clone the old drive to a new drive with Norton ghost. Always worth making an image of your old drive for future restores.

As this machine is only a P2 you could upgrade to a P3 for very little money.

Just upgraded my machine from
P2-450
65MB RAB
4.5GB HD

to

P3-600
196MB RAM
10GB HD
I imaged the original drive across to the new 10GB drive in 5 minutes, so now I have the original drive for restores.
You can put a P3 CPU straight into the original board with no need for jumper changes. Now works great, but still takes a little while to verify games on boot-up.

I can supply replacement drive for the Gamebox 3 with:

Who Wants To Be a Millionaire,
Weakest Link,
Cluedo,
Hangman,
ruitix,
Pyramids

hi, your hard drive is on its way out, thats why it takes that long to boot up...
I can supply you a cleardown disc for £5 first to see if that cures it by cleaning it up, otherwise i can supply you with a fast loading hard drive.

hi, if anyone needs any upgrades or hard drives for either megatouch or gamebox millionaire machines get in touch petee30@yahoo.co.uk or find my advert on ebay.co.uk typing quiz upgrade in search....pete

I know your trying to help people out mate, but take a look at when this thread was started.

... the machine was bought in 2006. People have just decided to bump an old thread, although it would appear a reply is missing (the post that 'lukeybizzle' quoted).
