hi got finally got the roms for a 4 reel version of blackjack via the mecca for the £4.80 version, is there any way to get the machine in test mode to find out what reel symbols go where or is it a case of play it to death till you've worked em out
mpu4 test mode

If the door switches have numbers in, delete and just leave blank to make them work.

slowly picking them out only the jp and money maker plus one more to find, luckily it pays two of a kind both ways

Check both doors, machine will reset..
hit test once, you will get twenty credits, than simply nudge the reels in
and holding down either the cancel or collect button(usually)
makes it easier to get them jackpots and money maker wins.

Cheers ht6 then I'll start work on the classic of this as the flyer poop, makes a change to play it on a higher JP level like cash explosion I did on £4.80 which I'll have to upload sometime but needed pooks permission as it's basically his layout but I've modified the decals to suit the higher jackpot and that gives the cashpot at £2max with repeat chance

You have to play and match. These mpu4s don't tell you what the symbols or overlays are. In fact I'm not sure any mpu 4 game tells you what the reels are.
Not strictly true, mate. Barcrest MPU4's definitely don't give you much information in the test routines, but most of the later MDM machines, and Empires do give you full test mode information. Basically, the later the machine, the more chance of it having the more helpful BACTA test modes.

One of the reasons why I never tried layout design beyond the extreme basics for all these years, was because when I tried with mpu3, mpu4 and m1a it seemed impossible to find out information.
After reading Reg's guide and doing the layout in the guide, I saw how Bacta really does 95% of the lamps and buttons work, once you have the machine running.
I would like to have a go at an older machine in the future, if it hasn't been done before and we have the roms and some sort of picture or flyer.

found the remaining reel symbols by luck lol also the extra cashpot lamps etc
its a rom version of this machine i've been wanting for a while so i've made a start on the artwork for it, its not perfect as thehighest res flyer i found of it via spas google drive thingy is still poor but its a different version to what we've got.
there is actually two lamps per "card" on the hi lo so i take it thats for the back of the card and the face of them?

Ah yes msn and empire, was thinking more along the lines of barcrest and Bwb. Never come across one of those that gives you the reel info. The way i figured them out was on a ram reset the reels would reset to triple bar on reel 1 and red sevens on reels 2 and 3 so was pretty easy to match em up.
Hold the bells mate.
