I don't play many AWP's nowadays, but I was shocked to see it taking £15 + to get on the feature on some I played this weekend in pubs.

They seem to look to frustrate and annoy the player, deliberately in several ways.....

Having the red reels pretense that you're about to get a great start on the board, but then still taking £7 or £8 to get into the feature and then nothing that special about the feature board.

Worst still some have a symbol on them (pay being one) which after the £7 or £8, just gives you £1 or £2 back and then dump you back to square 1.

Or the good old annoying gamble from any amount on the cash ladder, back to the last number on the trail (usually 7) and then another £2 or £3 to get back on the ladder, then have it dump you back to 7 again and again.

That's even before you get to the dick you about around the board and offer no more than £3 back stage.

Probably because I'm not in the know, about software bugs etc, but surely the casual player really is now better just to stay away altogether.

Give up in the late 90s, once they went £10 cash the amusement went out of the awp.

Hey Wearecity, I do play awps but mainly just a few pounds In, max £5. I do it 1 at a time. As for big casinos, that is a no no. Only the machines like good old electrocoin and astra. I just love to hear the reels spinning. Honestly, if all layouts and techs can support sounds, I would love that.  I mean, was playing EWN MK3 the other day, it was like I was sat in front of the machine. This is also true for black box, now I understand it a bit more. It's just far too complicated for me to set up the sounds myself as the speech software again fails me at that point going into edit mode! So, I'd say, MFME's my future unless I have a trip to the seaside.

nope. i dont play real AWP`s at all any more, only emulations.

i havnt since the £25 all cash era. i agree with you richy1976. the amusment went when all cash jackpots arrived (£10 onwards). too tight, limited game play. a token machine didnt mind chucking tokens at you for fun.(JPM Money Talks comes to mind....big money £6 tokens with x5 repeats, and then back on the board to do it all again (on the early roms anyway)

ive played a few of the DOND emulated machines that have been uploaded, and they all seem to be the same bloody crap! i always seem to fall back to the early 80`s to the mid 2000`s machines......you know, the "FUN TO PLAY" era. :)

and as  wearecity said above, modern machines, they take so much just to get a shitty £3 board.

Modern AWP=

I have no idea what a token machine is! As I was born in 1991 and went to arcades in the day when Barcrest's Road Hog was out, only used coins. Are they the trolley-type thingies like you use in lockers as well as £1 coins?

older machines only paid half of the jackpot value in cash. so on a £6 token jackpot machine it would only payout in cash any win of a value of £3 or less. all wins over £3 would be paid in tokens. this is applied on a per credit basis, and not the total of any saved winnings. tokens then can be replayed with the hope of winning cash back......(yeah, right......i still played for token jackpots with tokens i had all ready won!......... bloody idiot!)

tokens could also be used to buy items that the arcade may sell (bigger rip off than the tokens themselves..£10 worth of tokens for a 50p lighter!.) or in a pub you could buy food or drinks with them......

when the maximum jackpot level was increased to £10, tokens were dropped and the era of "all cash wins" began..............:) (i think!) :)

BTW....road hog was originaly a £4.80 or £6 token machine (i may be wrong on that though. it was a long time ago)

From someone who spent 18 years living in the arcades and pubs, haven't touched one now for about 2 years.

It's not willpower, I just...stopped one day, because of how bad the player offer has got.  From being obsessed, I found I just woke up with no interest in physical machines any more.

Pub machines impossible to win on now and terrible RTP

Arcades full of crappy £500's on 90%, the low tech cat C's usually all burnt to a crisp by the regulars and don't get me started on the evil Triple 7's.

All my slot gambling now takes place online, where you at least get a decent 95-87% RTP and no-one is sharking over your shoulder, or offering weak as piss coffee.

For me, online is too dangerous, I'd be quite happy to see online gambling completely banned from a selfish point of view. Some 8 years since stopping being a compulsive online gambler, I very much still need blocks in place, as I could quite easily do some real damage financially, if I didn't.

Even if I had a bad night, half a dozen times a year on AWP's , it would be nowhere near, what I could do if I were to let myself really loose online just for an evening, when the odd urge takes hold. Unlike years ago, I never have an urge to go out and find some AWP's to play in a pub or arcade.

I only play AWPs in private collections these days a couple of times a year.  Had a really nice day a couple of weeks ago spent about 5 hours playing Barcrest Mpu3's.  After  5 hours I had lost about a fiver.  Back in the day my £10 pocket money would only have lasted an hour or so in an arcade.

I only binge now and again down Weston even that's getting harder to do due to lack of funds.
I personally stopped playing or curved my addiction when the kids came along which also co insided with the £70 shite they just cost too much and as said before the amuse has well and truly been taken out of Amusement.
At least we can play these poop £70er without the need to take a mortgage out first,
Which will bring me neatly to my next topic
Mfme5 emulation!!!
The more I do today, The less I do tomorrow.
Fme is alive and screaming into the 21st century!

The fun went out of fruits when they made £10 cash jackpots,I mean when tokens was about i could spend allday with £35 and come out with £50-£60 tokens which gave me another day there to which i would win nothing cause i swear they was rigged not to payout much on token play, but then over time the big £500 pot came and sucked us in!!!BIG JOKE £200 in 5mins!!!

I stopped play about 6 years back after my first child and realizing am never really going to win, trying to chase money iv put in only to lose more,Any fruity gambler who says they won is liar never win long term I KNOW!!!!

Even now when i take kids the seaside i will put an odd £1 in £5 jackpoter but thats it. Shame really how the industry is killing itself on the get rich quick thing

Ps and stay away from them teddy claw machines aswell cause there a rip :realmad: (kids)

Everything is about control re gambling.

Ive had great results online but have also lost.

As far as slots in the arcades -we are firmly in the zone of all or nothing. You either put a few quid in and drop a jackpot or empty your wallet to get little if anything back. :nah:

You have only to play the current emulations(£35/£70jackpots) to see how the modern day slots play out.

I enjoy the £100 multi stakes in the arcades and will have a few quid now and again-but long gone are my heavy gambling days.

Can't agree more.

The best slots by a mile were the £2 repeater slots.

Regardless of how many multiple jackpots they paid-they still gave you a play.

And we can still enjoy many of the classic £2 slots thanks to the many wonderful layout creators we have. :notworthy:  :notworthy:

ive given up on pub machines. last time i played it showed £50 on the first board.

£100 later it still hadnt dropped.  they are a waste of money, not even remotely fair anymore unless youve got a good £300 in your pocket to see it through.
