Try swapping the reels around, and see if the fault code moves with the reel.

If it does, replace the reel or investigate if the sensor is faulty.

There is more than one Simpsons made, but I am going to assume it's the earlier blue one, and besides, fault you describe, same fix should be for all of them.

As Alex has pointed out, fault you have is a reel fault of some description, and most common issues relate to basically the reel sensor being unable to pick up the little tab on the reel, so it knows it's moving..... think of it like a PIR sensor on an alarm system, which is a small box with a flashing lamp in it..... it needs to see something pass it, for it to trigger.

Now first check you need to do, is when powering up, does the reel have this little black tab installed on it, and the reel able to move freely?

If the above is true, you need to locate this black tab, and make sure it passes freely through the reel sensor..... this sensor will have a little lamp in it like the previously mentioned PIR sensor, and will look something like this (The little black c-shaped thing)..... see if this is lit when powered on also.

If this all checks out, try a plug swap as Alex has suggested (When powered off obviously), and see if the error code changes..... if it does, then the fault will be with the reel unit, so swap everything back, and investigate the suspect reel PIR / photocell assembly (Likely it will need replacing, so note down any part codes attached)..... if however the fault code don't change, then the fault will be elsewhere, but worry about that later down the line if and when it happens.

These checks described, is something that would be applicable for any machine displaying a reel fault code..... reels are normally numbered from left to right on the bottom glass (x.1, x.2 etc), and if installed, on the top glass too.

Hi Stanmarsh14, great vid there. I love this machine, wish it was emulated for MFME 5, only seen £10 version, also believe there is a £15 version, seen it in amber 2. The £5 version plays better than the higher payouts, same as Meltdown and Duff beer guide. Sorry if that's a bit off-topic.

Easy enough to sort via stakes / prize settings, although begs the question..... why?

The profile on £15JP is more lumpy than the last stool I passed, and £5JP is as flat as a witch's tit..... made all the more worse if you touch any on 5p stake..... £10Jp / 20p profile is the best one there is.

Is this the same for all Simpsons line of machines? I have tried the whipeout £25 hardcore gambling version, and cannot get it to pay. It's almost the opposite to the Simpsons. But if I play the £15 profile, it pays out fine. However I need my numberlock on to press the high/low buttons, sorry going off-topic again mate.

OK, not good news I am afraid..... starting to sound like your reel driver board (4-way in your case, as you have the blue simpsons), may possibly be faulty.

From memory, this should be located just to the right of the 3rd reel, and will say something like 4-way reel driver board printed on it, and will have 4 plugs connected to it the same as you have at your reel end, and possibly other looms.

Ideally you could use with getting this board checked on another epoch 4 reel based machine to prove one way or another it's this that is faulty..... if you shout out your aprox location, there maybe a member local to you who could do this for you, or whom maybe willing for you to post it off to be checked.

Assuming the worst that this reel driver board is indeed faulty, should not be massively difficult to source, either via here, some of the Facebook groups, or even ebay.

Have found a 6-way (Yours will be a 4-way, so will have 2 less sets of pin header connectors) version here so you can get an idea what to look for, but beware that this particular seller does not have the best of rep's on the machine forums like here.
