What is the current resource fund we (the scene) have currently? i have been seeing many epoch machines come up on ebay for pennies:

http://www.ebay.co.u...0EAAOSwLF1X3Fbj(£50)

http://www.ebay.co.u...0oAAOSwgZ1XqhLQ(£50)

http://www.ebay.co.u...SAAAOSwLnBX53mT(might go for what £40~)

http://www.ebay.co.u...F8AAOSwYIxX23UL(£35)

if anyone is up for it maybe we should start talking about getting a fund together along with people designated for tasks they are willing / capable of doing (scanning/rom dumping/ photos/selling the machine on to recoup some funds back to the pot etc)

im willing to throw in the first £150 to get the ball rolling, obviously this will take some planning / discussing but what do you think, is this something we could do?

(on a side note this isn't a fund just for epoch machines, that was just an example)

It's been talked about before, and the funds are available for such things. Where it falls down is the logistics - people need to be prepared to collect, store, scan and dump resources, and then dispose of the machine again (with any resultant surplus ideally going back in to the fund).

Yes, you are spot on Alex, i am sure this has been mentioned before.

Unless people have appropriate transport, time, storage and means of getting the resources from these machines that come up, such above ideas (unfortunately) are pretty much dead in the water.

Couriers cost on average £60 for door to door collection and delivery.

Even if you could buy a machine for £50 (presumably non runners), courier it to your door for £60 and sell it back on for £50 (if you are lucky again for a non runner), it is still costing £60 to gather resources for one machine.

I'm local to the Wolverhampton & Cannock ones & transport should be possible, have access to a transit flat bed so not ideal, but should do the job being ~ 5 - 10 miles. Owner should be fine giving them £10 for fuel as thanks. Storage not an issue now some space in garage is cleared) but I only have a standard A4 printer/scanner all in 1 type deal, not a flatbed & don't have a rom dumper.

why don't people  just contact the owner offer £20 to go there dump the roms and scan the glass. He is making £20 for nothing and its not costing a fortune assuming that the machines are near to the person that can do it or better if he is capable of doing this himself.Chances are any one that owns a machine is aware of the emulator.

Good idea, but that would mean taking a laptop, eprom reader, camera, tools to remove roms / board from said machine (if necessary), getting the owner to allow stripping down of the machine. Maygay/Global/Extreme reelbands are stuck onto the reeldrums and are difficult to get off for scanning, so i assume photo's would have to be taken of those.

As i say good suggestion, but i don't see this happening either. It has all been suggested in the past.

I can dump roms if needs be, A4 all in one scanner is fine for bands and decals (just scan left- middle- right then use photoshop to stitch back together, i can do this also if no-one else can but i presume there are many who may be able to), that is not an issue as long as a scan around 600 dpi (my personal preference) can be done in a bmp or jpg image.

See if they will cut a band up so it can be put in an envelope. Cheap postage then.
