I really need some help here .... please  :wubclub:

On my lappy I succumbed and downloaded the dreaded Win10....

Somewhere along the line I have also added outlook.

Fine I thought at the time i'll just remove it --- not so easy!, now when I turn-on the sod up Outlook ask's for a password before Windows boots.

A Password in itself isn't an issue...it's just I don't want it on boot-up....simples!!

Read so many thing's via Google but I just can't remove (NOR FIND) the bloody thing.

Please can anyone help me find a solution?  :notworthy:

When you say Outlook asks for a password before Windows boots do you mean that or do you mean it asks as you log in?

If it's the latter then do CTRL+SHIFT+ESC for task manager and look at the startup tabs. In there you might see Outlook and just disable it.

If it's not directly shown then it can be caused by some "bundled" apps that come with the laptop - for example Lenovo's power management app for some reason seems to start Outlook when it fires up.

If you're not sure then disable things one at a time and reboot to see which one it is - I know this is a pain but sometimes that's all you can do.

Outlook shouldn't be asking you for a password to log-in...

But if you've got Windows 10 then Microsoft itself will be asking you for your Microsoft ID (same as Outlook) to log-in to the computer as you've chosen your Microsoft account to log-in to Windows 10 instead of  a 'local' account.

Just enter your Microsoft ID password (the same as Outlook  - it should be as they’re both Microsoft accounts) and it will let you log into the PC.

Then go to: Settings / Account / Login / - then change from Microsoft ID to a local account.

Hope you can understand that duck! :) x

Ah, yeah I hadn't thought of that :)

If you don't like win10 you could also revert to the previous version as long as you've not had it on the PC for more than a month...

Tried that Daryl, the word 'outlook' has now gone.

Still asking for a password to get my desktop though.

Jeeze this is so embarrassing asking what should be an easy task---but I just don't get-it!

I had 7 Magz....

I thought though knowing MS that'll be obsolete in 3 weeks :(

Ive had this issue before. This fixed it for me:

https://www.tekrevue...0-login-screen/

Not sure it has much to do with outlook though so might not be the fix for your problem

Edit: Dont give up on windows 10 yet, I actually really like it. Just get rid of anything to do with cortana

Windows 10 appears to be fine on my lappy, even has a photoshop update although I've never clicked on it. That Cortina gadget I've never tried, also made IE the main browser not the other one it pre loads on to you. As for the original post! I've never been asked or put a password on opening the main screen on start up.

Win 7 is good until January 14th 2020.

If you're not going to keep your current PC beyond this then you're ok to stay with it until then.

Try the password you used on Windows 7 if it is a free upgrade to Windows 10 bud...

That what I had to do when I upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 10 - then I made mine my Microsoft ID account (you can even use a PIN number to log-in then and it's so much simpler)

Well I tried all that was suggested, as I have just formatted my PC I thought i'd boot-up Old Faithful.

As I said I tried all the possible solutions to no avail (at the time!).

On just starting it's 'as it was' and whatever the 'bug' was isn't there now.......odd!!

So thanks to One of you for the result....can't be sure though who it was haha.

Though ALL the help was appriciated.

without reading the whole thread, it sounds like you have user accounts enabled, hence the log on. i removed it and it boots straight to desktop.

if no joy i`ll do a step by step for you Ady.

Ah so you just "switched it off and on again" that usually does the trick, LOL!

This caught me out initially for different reasons.  I had a local account and couldn't access my onedrive.  On my home desktop I never bother with passwords and my user is always 'new user' I just want to get to the desktop and use the damn thing ;)
