Hey guys. well Ive just been looking through the downloads section for a bit of nostalgia on some machines I havent played yet and I saw the "FREE" picture above the main fruit machine picture.
Now I know we want this community to be free and open but unfortunately as the world has shown us over and over again, its all great until you get the free wheeling c**ts coming in expecting the world at their feet and some change to boot.
Now being a gambler, gamer, and someone with a generally addictive personality I spend an awful lot of money on in app purchases to play my favourite games like clash of clans, Wizard of oz slots and whatnot, So why cant the same thing happen here.
I know first hand what it is like to run websites, even my site aimed at helping others with their home arcade machines ended up in the bin because there was just SOOO many free loaders wanting something for nothing and think websites like this just appear and dont take any money/effort to run.
I have also been to other websites that host the files needed to run certain games, especially those that are needed in this kind of forums "arcade". So for example, when hosting my arcademachinehelp forum, I wanted an arcade.. i think this site may still have one.. but most sites i visited only let you download 1 file a day and if you wanted more you had to either buy credits to download, or subscribe to download.
Now again, I dont want to open a whole barrel of worms here.. I know there are A LOT of people who work very hard running this site, modding, contributing, helping others, etc etc.. And I would hope there would be a way of rewarding hard working members, but i think you should seriously looking into a credit system for downloading files from this site, purely to increase the sites income to then put into developing more emulators or resource collection.
I dont think many people (even those who have been here since the first day) realise how much effort goes into running this place and there needs to be a way of buying the resources and developing emulators that are paid for from the Fruit-emu pot only, so therefore we end the whole bicker of people saying, ive spent this much on that so therefore I have a say in what happens to the site globally.
This site, as so many others are in general a business. You need to make enough money to oversee your overheads or eventually it will just go downhill and eventually close. I personally think that changing the download section to a credit system that people have to pay 10p to the sites upkeep per download or something like that would be beneficial to the site.
It would stop the "one time visitors" who Rape the bandwidth with a million downloads, hopefully it wouldnt affect the regulars too much as they would already have the downloads, but if everyone gave £1 per 10 downloads, I honestly dont think that would break their own personal bank, but could advance Fruit-Emu along very well. (as long as the money is diverted back into Fruit-emu.
I dont know, it was just an idea. im sure it has been talked about many many many times.
