Two things I may ask, one is there a donate tab on the front page as can't find one I'm sure there used to be one, secondly I echo I have finished's reply about safety where bank details are involved that's why I'm reluctant to donate. Is there any way us members could donate via PayPal as its a safer option in my eyes maybe have a donate via paypal link on the front page just an idea thanks.

You must’ve donated before mate - you’ve got ‘Gold’ status. That’s a £20 donation at least…

Can i make a suggestion, to all those who make the decisions..

when i was running fruitytalk, I had an arcade section in it. many ofthe site that host the original .swf files you need per game would entice people in by allowing 1 or 2 downloads per day/week for free, but after that it costs them a subscription fee.. like £3 to download 10 a week or £5 to download 20 etc etc..

Now hear me out, because i understand that many of us dont want to be paying for downloads.. and thats not what this is about.. but think about this.

I bet that more than 60 percent of fruit-emus members have signed up.. went straight to downloads and downloaded 50-100 downloads.. and not even glanced twice at the forum (except for asking when partytime or deal or no deal is coming out)..

The one time visiiting member couldnt give a shit how much this site costs to run.. they couldnt give a shit about its members, its politics, its values or anything else, other than, to download a free programme and play machines.

But im sure that revenue would go up for running this site if you put a download limit on and charged £2-£3 to increase the limit.

Im sure something like this has happened before.. and to be honest, if someone gets the arse, let them.. because they aint faced with the bills.

Just a Suggestion ;)

I agree in principle Nick, but I do think a having a basic membership fee of say a £1 would attract more people and active members to pay a subscription.

It would also stop duplicate accounts etc and build up some cash for the site and all the time and hard work that goes into it.

I do not know the figure but I do wonder how many members there are in total? Yet even if there are say 500,then that a year that would yield £6000 for the site,i'm more than sure that would would be a huge help.

Some good points there nic, but I say keep the downloads as they are non- donating members limited to 5 a day like its always been or reduce it to 3 a day or 7 a week but the layouts are non-profitable anyway.
I've seen an increase of "newbie" members asking various questions about there own fruit machines, getting the answers they want then f'ing off, never to be seen again these and the ones whom sell their fruit machines on here for free need clamping down this is a Fruit Machine Emulation site not a free ad site maybe if they want to sell there machines then a weekly subscription fee should be in place unless they've already donated to here, or failing that if said machine is un-emulated at the time upload some decent images instead. Maybe there could be a link that directs us to the fruit-emu selling page.
A little more gratitude towards the new releases wouldn't go a miss from newbie members to a PM to them saying 'if you download a new release then please be involved and say thanks for the layout' and state to them the benefits of donating a couple of quid in increased download limits etc, it may just get the newbie's more involved.
And finally Ive seen these various adverts on here the latest for me being fabulous casino and jackpot party is this the same for everyone if so does duplu get any revenue from these sites to advertise, if not then maybe they should pay him or he could get some gambling related sites to pay to advertise I'e tombola, ladbrookes costa bingo etc.

Continuing from above. It costs this site approx £1500 per year to run yes. So if you got advertisements of say £1000.
And the members who sell machines either single ones or a fair few throughout the year paid a subscription in which some already do afaik, then that wouldn't that be enough so no member needed to donate or not as much.
Secondly how many different members actually log on and download stuff on this site per year if its say 1500 then if each individual member donated a pound a year again wouldn't that be enough, like you would if you went to a clubhouse.
Still needs a PayPal button to make donating easier reelsoffun for instance is easy to pay for the sims. Then you get a confirmation email after.

the donations system here has worked pretty well throughout the years - duplu hasn't ever ripped anyone off yet so I don't see why confirmation email should make issues... you get one anyway, when you've donated to duplu through his email address system, which is linked.

You should know this vectra - you have a 'gold' supporters badge for donating £20

I think the cleanest way is to flog discs on eBay, give eBay viewers an invite to sign up for free or to purchase discs through eBay. It'll help drive off the public domain sellers, financially support the forums and drive in more traffic to FME websites. Not everyone wants to join a forum, plenty of people still stick to email, facebook, eBay and youtube. Also whatever's left could go towards purchasing old machines for resources..

The only problem I see with that is the MFME EULA phobits you to sell them ? At least have some sort of presence to generate traffic for ad revenue. Should probably revampe the download section make it more convenient to download. Dadsfme Snapshots but with clickable downloads.. host files both externally on filehosts and on fruit emu's fileserver to manage and reduce bandwidth costs.. and maybe restrict / limit the number of server downloads to forum supporters & donators.

I knew all this already, was only stating the fact about paypal n reelsoffun and the confirmation email from that, you get a email from here when you join up aswell. Whether you get emails or not that's not the issue here. This site needs to think about ways to generate revenue, we could go sort of brownbags way not by way of ebay but if any member wants the complete collection of layouts on one disc then they could "contribute" towards the costs say a fiver per disc +p n p with full instructions but make the disc's uncopyable so can't copy on another disc

As the whole premis of this site is around emulation of fruit machines and all of those emulators have at their core an element of MAME code I don't think it is compatible with the licence of MAME to charge for membership; this is also one of the reasons those eBay disks are illegal.

I really think we have to stick with donations and advertising revenue as methods for raising funds to pay for the hosting. Good point about the history there Ady, just reading about that the other day; as early as 2003 and we still had issues with those bloody disks!

Yeh I read brownbags comment.. thought "uhoh" haha.. basically if you start making sales through disks.. you turn this site from being a fan based community to a "business" that will need to pay tax.
It has to be voluntary donations.. that way they are not taxed. You dont restrict access to the services but instead "limit it" and to lift the limit you request a small donation from the member.
Of course we could argue as to what the limit should be.. it could be anything.. but onlu duplu and some mods will know the figures of downloads per member and number of inactive members.

Bumping this old thread, and it is old because shit me, Ady and me were getting along before the shitstorm back then.  But back to the topic at hand.  You may have seen a post about multiple accounts set up, probably by peeps trying to get around download limits.  This is causing no end of grief for Alex as there are forum options to block email domains which would deal with wholesale applications from disposable email address services, but the blocking functionality isn't working correctly.  As the forum's software subscription has expired Alex is unable to raise a support ticket to get it sorted.

Now some of you might think that Alex getting some grief is just part of running a forum and what is it to do with me guv.  Fair point and we do have work-arounds for the issues at hand.  However if you do feel a slight twinge of angst on behalf of Alex at hearing this news then you could help by contributing towards the princely sum of $95 which would buy us 6 months worth of updates and tech support.  In today's money the $95 equates to just under £70.

For my part I have now forgotten about the shitstorm and restarted my gold membership and chucked £20 in the pot.  If you are able to spare just a little we will soon have this covered.

Thanks for your time and continued support of the site.
