just wondered if anyone might be interested in a regular fact thread,, some of which could be extremely interesting!! but only to do with the hows, whys + considered options of the inside of the older electro mechanical beautys?? example 1,, ever wondered how it was possible for a win to hold after hold after hold BUT it would never hold a win following a nudge???? well i could tell you the answer + many more + i am sure many other old timers would contribute to the FACT THREAD!!!!! just an idea????

Good idea, and now that you've got me curious, you could start by answering the poser in your post.

The operation consists of cam timer/switches and relays. The reason no hold after nudge was offered was because on the SNG the hold/nudge selector rotary(wiper arm running around a board with a circle of wired studs) timer operate as one,so at the point of the game cycle where either the hold or nudge was selected, the timer could only be in a position to select one or the other all depending on the position of the wiper arm on the timer at the point of selection,If the wiper was at a 'live' wired hold stud, a hold is selected for the next game,at the point of a 'live'wired nudge stud a nudge selected at the end of the in play game,At the point of selection of a 'dead' or no wired stud no nudge or hold will be selected.
Having said that it is possible to alter that config to allow a nudge after hold.
No logic circuit involved,The hold lights flashed controlled by a single cam switch on the hold timer and wired through each of the individual hold relays to the three hold lamps.
When any of the hold buttons are pressed they activate their own hold relay, this overrides the flasher circuit to that selected reel lamp replacing it with a permanent connection to the lamp. This connection is severed via cam switches deactivating the hold relays during the game cycle.
the BAR-X's are not electro mechanical and therefore will allow the hold after a nudge win, infact ANY modern day fruit machine can quite easily offer holds after any win, even jackpots especially when trying to adjust its percentage. it is also extremely common after exchanging to the feature board and then collecting immediately for exactly the same outcome, the machine becomes confused that you have only collected say 60p + will simply hold several times for the same reason but i digress,, all types of fruit machine absolutely facinate me + i have studied them for over 30yrs + can answer many questions,,??? maybe i'll post some more interesting facts in to the magic mysterys of the older types,, thats if anyone really cares??? :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Some very good research material on old electro's on the Mecca, with Ron (BF74), the best to ask about issues surrounding them, and he also has a number of schematics (Most are based on the Bell-Fruit systems, or Carfield).

Got an old BFM electro (Cross Over), and a hybrid electro / electronic (Carfield Super Frenzy) at mine, and an old ACE clubber (Championship Soccer) I'm looking after for a Mecca member.

Vid's here of Cross Over, and Super Frenzy running....

(Solenoids disconnected in this vid, as I live in a top floor flat, and the vid was done at 3am! :D)

Though all my machines work on coins, I do have discrete credit switches fitted to them, mostly down to the fact, that old coinage is hard to come by.

Got many more of my machines (Past and present) here.....

You think the solenoids are bad on those two, try a MK1 Electrocoin bar-x, or indeed any of the Electrocoin bar-x type machines, which are solenoid based.

I'm sure John_Disco will back me up on this (He has one himself), that the buggers go off like a Gatling Gun :arghh:

It's a strange one, compared to the rest BFM did back then, like Ten-Up, etc.....

For starters, no nudges, but it has multi-way pay lines, and a tic-tac-toe special symbol system, that when lit, pays out on any of the 27 pay lines, including the JP.

Got it from a place in Lemington Spa, where it had sat in a warehouse for 18 years, and pretty much unmolested, so other than a few small chips out of the cab and the veneer edging peeling, and power cord re-wire, pretty much spot-on, and had about £3 in old 5p's in the bottom as a bonus, which was greatly appreciated, as she's on all old coins.

Just cosmetic work left to do (The metal / black edging on the glass need stripping / painting).

Holds a dear place in my heart though, as I remember the same machine, but different name (Cats Cradle), at me mates dad's place at age 6, and we always used to be playing on it.
