Right...... :D

I have two hard modded Wii in the house but after today's shite on with the New Super Mario Bros 'leak' I decided to give Dolphin a go. (I had tried it before but found it shit..especially when I have the real thing so to speak.)

Apparently before the patch and some huge fannying about to softmod a wii and then cross your fingers (phew just read a 60 plus page thread on the topic) that you might get it working on a real Wii. (Mine failed.) I decided to follow NQ's post at FF -

Thoughts?

Plays fine in Dolphin, but not on a chipped wii, quality.

Problem is it does not unless you think 20fps is acceptable..... slllllllloooooooowwww motion alert. I mean I have a quad core machine with tons of ram and good gfx card etc etc but it runs like shite and crashes at random. (Both patched and non-patched ISO files do this.)

So my point is does any one have this running okay and if so on what settings? (I followed the settings to the latter at that huge thread.)

Second what wii games DO actually run well on this emu? I have tried about a dozen and most don't even load let alone run at a decent speed?
(NQ said in IRC every wii iso he has tried he gets 60fps) So what is the crack here?

There is a patch out for the "leaked" version.
Heres the text from the NFO.....

This will patch the ind-nsmb-pal.iso (New_Super_Mario_Bros_EUR_Wii-iND) image
in order to bypass the new copy protection and allow you to play from DVD or
USB Loader's

Instructions:

Auto Patch:

Extract "NEW_MARIO_BROS_Wii_FIX.PAR2" to the same folder as "ind-nsmb-pal.
if you have renamed the iso you must change it back before using the par2 file.

If you have quickpar (http://www.quickpar.org.uk/) associated with *.Par/*.Par2
files just double click "NEW_MARIO_BROS_Wii_FIX.PAR2" after it has scanned the
iso choose to repair that's it <img src='http://www.fruit-emu.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Manual Patch:

Start the WiiScrubber (Included) select ind-nsmb-pal.iso and load it, Click +
next to Partition 0 to expand the tree view and right click on the main.dol and
select replace, Now select the main.dol (included) and click ok you can now Exit
WiiScrubber.

Now Burn the Iso to DVD or copy to USB Device for USB Loader GX etc.

What shall i put here?

Yeah that is bull as well to a point. A Chinese group patched the .dol and it was around the net fast. This time yesterday the method was on GBATemp and although some can get it to work most can not. :undecided:

Okay got it working via usb loader after a f*****g huge chew on. Problem is if you have a hard modded Wii then it is fairly pointless having a soft mod one for obvious reasons.

The soft modding is not a stroll in the park for sure. Especially when nearly every tutorial is different albeit just slightly or most assume you have done part X Y or Z first. The forums don't take nicely to n00bs so much I stated 'Well at least I can see the buttons f*** off!' :D

Not one single decent tutorial taking you from a fresh Wii to one needed to play NSMB. Get a tutorial to install the HBC, get one to change to a custom ISO, get one depending on which ISO you are on to get the right other bit, then get one to show you how to use the loaders.... f*** me what a chew on.

Now as far as I know the Wii is fine for playing NSMB but if I lob the Sonic/Mario at Winter game in it f***s it off because I need a higher firmware.... oh f*****g joy of joys.

Do like the idea of booting games for a HDD so might save up and get a decent external HDD and lob all the games I have on that.

Secondly though that f*****g Dolphin emu is shite. Even if you read the forums for games that run perfectly it is bollocks.

Still waiting for folks to suggest games that do run well at least 95%

Ah, stop f*****g whinging, we got it 10 days pre-retail. Wait for a propered scene release with the copy protection totally removed.

Stick to forum members slagging, lack of emu updates etc etc.

Oooooooo well you know if folk did not brag at it running 60fps and this and that it might make it easier to swallow. You know getting a straight answer to a simple question that does not send you half way round the internet and back. Still waiting for a list of these games that run top speed in the emu, guess that won't happen.

FYI the copy protection for modchips is a different kettle of fish so to speak as it looks like with 'Brawl' the modchips will need an update and since mine is a Wiikey I won't hold my breath.

We also got Modern Warfare 2 10 days pre-retail and that had f*** all protection for the 360. So what's the point here?

Like I said I'm just getting a bit pissed off with people saying X Y or Z and not being able to back it up.

wasn't the Nitro fixed release yesterday, patched and fully working? From what I've read it seems to be pretty much 100% succes working from the usb loader. Haven't had time to try it yet tho

Yeah I said in previous post I have it working but getting my Wii to the point I could play it was awful, with the threat of bricking it a real possibility made it worse.

Just wondering now if the Wii will play all the other backups I have now or do I have to convert them all by WBFS and play them from a USB drive.

I don't bother at all with 2nd gen console emus... its just not worth all the hassle. People report they get them working flawlessly at 60fps on there tri-quad core machines... I say bullshit. I have never had decent success with these emu's. Is there a total completely fuss free 2nd gen console emu out there? I just softmodded my wii and installed a little piece of software called WIIFLOW.. It. Is. The. Biz...

That's one of my points, people saying they have X Y Z running but when asked you get no answers.

Got one of the Wii softmodded to play NSMB but I'm not too keen, I mean it has a chip in it and not had a problem playing backups with that.
Don't like the idea that every time a Wii upgrade is released it is back to the drawing board patching games and fannying on with cIOS to get them running.
Yeah it was an adventure, but back to the chip for me hehe. :D

Yeah I heard even on a hard modded wii you still have to softmod it and go through a USB loader. New protection on the games?

Yeah but is it early days... game is not officially out here till the 20th I believe. Like I said before though I have a Wiikey and I won't hold my breath for a new flash for that.

Dunno why Ninty etc bother... time after time stuff is cracked within days or less of release.... must waste £££ protecting them.

I will buying the new Super Mario when it comes out officially, though I'm not overly keen on it, really wanted it to have a more old skool feel to it like the snes classics, this doesn't feel quite right to me. Though admittedly I have only played for an hour or so.

The good thing about installing WIIFLO is that you can install all your DVD games onto the usb hard disk and it compresses them on the fly and also downloads artwork etc, the graphic interface is pretty awesome too.

Thee is a new release for this now by scene group 'BAHAMUT'. Not sure if it's working of not. I'm thinking the safest way is going to be to dump the image from a retail disc using usb loader gx or whatever prog you use. Unless there is a sure fire way of getting it working in between time. It's very hit and miss at the moment

The original dump was a 1:1 rip so in essence is no different to the BAHAMUT release. For mod-chips alone it is going to be a chip flash no doubt.

finally got this working today.. at last! 3rd time lucky downloading different isos. There was an upload to piratebay of a fixed iso that actually works. Only thing is it will ONLY work with the usb loader and installing a particular IOS, so those with only a soft modded wii wanting to play via dvd are still out of luck as of yet but I'm sure it won't be long. Nintendo must be screwing that the new protection got hacked and the new game leaked so early as it was a huge release for them. I wonder what they'll have for the next Zelda!
