Picture if you will a guy in his early twenties with nothing much to do on a Saturday and with money burning a whole in his pocket. Add to this the local amusement arcade in Woolwich, South East London and you have a dangerous mix. Well it would have been dangerous if the story took place in the present day and if the machines were the same as the current crap we're served up with. Fortunately our story takes place in the early nineties and the young guy is me.
I used to spend endless Saturday's taking a trip into Woolwich for a Pie 'n' Mash and then across for a session in the arcade. The machines of the era were the classics such as Indiana Jones, Card Cash, Instant Jackpots and the brilliant Money Talks. These were machines that you could spend a whole day moving between with a pocket full of tokens and eventually leave at closing having hardly spent anything.
Anyway enough of the nostalgia and on to the review. This is a big layout and will fill the whole of your 1280 x 1024 screen so it's not one for those of you with older laptops or small TFTs. I'm all for 1280 layouts as the wording on some 1024 layouts is just too small to read.
The graphics are bright and clear as you would expect from glass scans. The lamping is also excellent and the overall result, dare I say it, could be compared to some of Pook's work. As I understand it the sideart was put together by Liverpool2008 and adds to the overall feel of the layout.
Another great feature of this machine is its sounds from the noise made when you press the hold buttons to the Jackpot tune - unsurprisingly called Money Talks by Stevie V.
All in all a top class layout that will have me hooked for many a night so a big thanks goes out to adydb for his hard work in both obtaining and scanning the actual machine and for putting together the layout.
'Money talks, mmm-hmm-hmm, money talks
Dirty cash I want you, dirty cash I need you, woh-oh
Money talks, money talks
Dirty cash I want you, dirty cash I need you, woh-oh'
For those of you who don't know you can't lose on the first hi-lo gamble if you get onto the board from the three pounds symbols. So if you start on a 4 go lower so you can get a 1 and then a 3 for the first swag bag. You can lose however if you got on to the board from a cash win. Three swag bags gets you on to the Big Money feature where you can win either £3 cash or £6 in tokens. It's not unusual for the Big Money feature to repeat and I can remember it repeating 4 or 5 times on the £6 token win.
