Just seen it on the news. What a terrible thing to happen to such a beautiful pier. Hope everyone managed to evacuate the pier OK.

Apparently the fire started in the amusement arcade... Probably in an Epoch!

just the same happened to Weston super mare's a few years ago but that was the bottom end also the arcade probs an insurance job for Weston, I remember they shut the beach off not for elf n safety but to stop looters searching for pound coins in the mangled partytime,s n dond's  apparently before they closed the beach people was collecting hundred's of coins, beach goer's still finding em today . back to Eastbourne lucky its only the front end the back part looks untouched so can easily be re-built again and again

Thankfully everyone was evacuated safely....which given the way it erupted was pretty amazing.

I have been reading the blog on this as it's local news to me....

In Brighton we have lost 2 Piers, One to cost at a total Knob high on amphetamines thinking a firework party was the highlight of Brightons night (after Brighton & Hove Council closed having not made a penny as they have no clue to the Cities running! --- then Nor now!) that was the West Pier.

Alas the Second was when Nobles bought the Palace Pier..............they actually did it proud by spending a fair few bob on it, and I have to admit it's still solid...................trouble is they TRIED to rename it as the Brighton Pier.....Sorry guy's we locals appreciate you spending the cash you make on it............But sorry it IS and always will be the Palace Pier ;)

I remember Weston Grand Pier fire really well, funnily enough I was up there spending a day trip less than a week before it went up in flames.

I have to admit, although it was a tragedy seeing it burn to the ground, I would have been one of the first ones there underneath it watching machines drop

out of the sky one by one!

I think I would have gone for the B3's if I'd had a chance! LOL

It would be interesting to see where the law stands on that sort of thing?

Is it actually illegal to do this and is there a law technically preventing it?

I would assume it's illegal - machines are the property of the arcade and the cash belongs to both the arcade and the tax man :)
