Working with MFME....Give this a try.......
Download a flyer and save to a folder that contains a Layout and ROM....convert the flyer to a BMP image (all Emulations only support BMP images)
Open that Emulation ensure that it is unlocked, (some are locked so they cannot be altered)....In Design Mode right click outside the machine and select Properties, click on the little Bitmap image and a prompt will open--direct this to your flyer then Open and Apply.
Back onto the Emulator select Design, Layout and Save Layout, this will prompt an Overwrite? choose yes and the default file.........close the Emu and reopen.......you'll see this has the Background you chose.
Of course this is step One, you'll see that prior to all this you need to crop and clean the image (or even create your own), but this will show you that you can alter the background and save it.
Then comes the Lamps...if you right click a lamp you'll see each has Two images, an 'on' and an 'off', these are made by taking your original Art an using a tool like Photoshop cut an image and saving, you'll then need to duplicate this 'lit-up'.
In the Emu, go back to the lamp properties and load the two images you created and see what happens!
This is VERY crude, but it would take an age to describe the full technique....this hopefully will answer your question, and allow you to have a bit of fun.
